Eid prayers not allowed at Srinagar's Jama Masjid, Mirwaiz alleges house arrest

For the seventh year in a row, the authorities in Srinagar did not allow Eid-ul-Adha prayers at the historic Eidgah ground and Jamia Masjid in the old city on Saturday and placed Kashmir's leading cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest. The gates of Jamia Masjid were locked early in the morning, and police were deployed outside to prevent entry. 'Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid, Srinagar, deeply regrets to inform that the authorities have once again disallowed Eid-ul-Adha prayers at the Eidgah as well as at the historic Jama Masjid in by closing the gates of the mosque and deploying police personnel outside,' the management of the historic mosque said in a statement. It said the authorities did not even permit the pre-dawn (Fajr) prayers. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq condemned the move and posted on X: 'Eid Mubarak! Yet again, Kashmir wakes up to the sad reality: no Eid prayers at Eidgah, and Jama Masjid locked down for the 7th straight year. I too have been detained at my home.' 'In a Muslim-majority region, Muslims are deprived of their fundamental right to pray -- even on their most important religious occasion celebrated across the world!' he said. 'What a shame on those who rule over us, and on those elected by the people who choose to remain silent as our rights are trampled over, again and again,' Mirwaiz said on X. After offering namaz at Hazratbal dargah on the outskirts of Srinagar, chief minister Omar Abdullah said, 'While we are celebrating Eid, unfortunately, once again, permission was denied to offer namaz in Srinagar's iconic Jama Masjid. I don't know the basis of these decisions, but we need to learn to trust our people. These are the same people who came out to protest against the Pahalgam terrorist attack. The government should think about allowing namaz at the historic Jama Masjid.' Reacting to the developments, PDP leader Iltija Mufti said: 'I want to ask the National Conference government and the lieutenant governor (Manoj Sinha) why the Mirwaiz is still being placed under house arrest when you claim everything is normal. As India's only and the largest Muslim majority state, we Kashmiris have the right to worship... More than infrastructure, we need dignity and security of life.' PDP chief and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti said: 'Unfortunately, the government, on this pious day, has denied permission to offer namaz in the Jama Masjid, and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has been put under house arrest... I protest against the state government also, which is just watching everything and doing nothing.'

Eid prayers 'not allowed' at historic Srinagar Eidgah, CM Omar criticizes move

Srinagar, June 7 (UNI) Authorities on Saturday disallowed Eid prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid in old city and also put Kashmir's chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest, Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid said here. The managing committee of the Jamia mosque affairs said the authorities once again disallowed Eid-ul-Adha prayers at Eidgah Srinagar, as well as at the historic Jama Masjid Srinagar, by closing the gates of the mosque and deploying police personnel outside. Traditionally, the congregational Eid prayers are offered at Eidgah. 'Even the Fajr prayers this morning were not permitted at Jama Masjid as the gates remained locked,' the statement said, adding' Miwaiz has also been placed under house arrest.' In a post on X, Mirwaiz who is also the Hurriyat chairman said it is for the seventh year in a row that Eid prayers were disallowed at Jamia. The Eid prayers have been barred at Jama Masjid and Eidgah by the authorities since 2019. 'Eid Mubarak! Yet again, Kashmir wakes up to the sad reality: no Eid prayers at Eidgah, and Jama Masjid locked down — for the 7th straight year. I too have been detained at my home,' Mirwaiz said. 'In a Muslim-majority region, Muslims are deprived of their fundamental right to pray — even on their most important religious occasion celebrated across the world! What a shame on those who rule over us, and on those elected by the people who choose to remain silent as our rights are trampled over, again and again,' he added. The authorities didn't respond to the claims made by the Anjuman. J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said he was deeply concerned about the denial of Eid prayers at Jamia Masjid. He questioned the authority of those making this decision. 'I have no information on what basis such a decision is taken. But one day we will have to trust our people. They are the same people who after the April 22 (Pahalgam terror attack) came out and expressed their anger and condemned the act. …But today, once again, the Eid prayers were not allowed at historic Jamia …I feel that the government should think again at some point,' Omar told media in Srinagar. Meanwhile, the Eid prayers were held across the valley and the largest congregation was held at Hazratbal shrine on the banks of Dal lake. Officials said Eid prayers were held peacefully across Valley. UNI MJR PRS

Permanently closed label on Jaish headquarters in Pak after India's strike

When the Indian armed forces produced video evidence of their coordinated strike on Jaish-e-Mohammed's terror headquarters, Markaz Subhan Allah camp in Pakistan's Bahawalpur, all that was left was rubble. Now, the Google Maps label on the terror den in Pakistan's heart, Punjab, reads "permanently closed". The Markaz Subhan Allah camp, under the guise of Jamia Masjid, was founded by terrorist Masood Azhar and was used for recruitment, fundraising, and strikes on terror camps and hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK), on May 7, were a part of its precision strikes during Operation Sindoor. This was in retaliation for the terror attacks on April 22 that killed 26 people in Pahalgam, Markaz Subhan Allah camp in Bahawalpur, 100 kilometres from the International Border (IB), was crucial as it served as a stronghold for JeM. The terror group has carried out multiple deadly attacks on India, including the 2001 Indian Parliament attack, the 2016 Pathankot airbase attack, and the 2019 Pulwama suicide bombing. A video accessed by India Today TV on May 7 revealed the damaged terror hub Subhan Allah camp. Pakistan is guardian of peace yet resolute to defend its territorial integrity and sovereignty: Brutal & Measured response to indian aggression

By Ahmad El-Assasy This dossier outlines Pehalgam incident in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) on 22 April 2025 and the subsequent unprovoked aggression by India in Pakistan. Astonishingly, within just ten minutes of the firing episode, Indian authorities precipitously lodged an FIR against Pakistan without any credible evidence or investigation. Pakistan proposed a joint investigation under neutral third party. These proposals were all rejected by India, raising questions about India's intentions. It is evident that Pehalgam attack was a false flag operation orchestrated by India and deliberately exploited as a pretext to justify its aggression, serving internal political objectives rather than genuine security concerns. Based on fabricated fact and using Pehalgam false flag as justification, India targeted various locations in Pakistan, including Muridke, Bahawalpur and Muzaffarabad and also sent 100 plus Drones in Pakistan territory. In Muridke, missiles struck Jamia Masjid killing many civilians. Bahawalpur was also targeted, with missile strikes hitting the Mosque, resulting in civilian casualties, including women and children. In Muzaffarabad, the capital of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, an Indian strike severely damaged a mosque and killed of innocent's civilians. Pakistan Military response was brutal and measured, as per international laws of self defence and targeted Military location in India. Pakistan calls for a fair, impartial, and international investigation into the Pehalgam incident, that was categorically rejected by India, raising serious questions about the credibility of India's narrative. India's has history of false flag operations, like the Pulwama attack, Mumbai attacks, and the Samjhauta Express and many other false flag were used to malign Pakistan and deflect attention from India's internal security failures. The Pehalgam incident follows the same pattern of manipulation and manufactured provocation. Furthermore, Pakistan is a victim of Indian state-sponsored terrorism, which is executed through proxies operating within and outside Pakistan. Over the years, Pakistan has presented concrete and credible evidence of Indian state sponsor terrorism and involvement in destabilizing Pakistan. Pakistan reaffirms its commitment to regional peace and stability and international community must hold India accountable for its aggression and attack on innocents' women and children. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Egypt confirms denial of airspace access to US B-52 bombers Lifestyle Pistachio and Raspberry Cheesecake Domes Recipe News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War

Mehbooba, Mirwaiz call on India, Pak leaders for peace

Valley leaders, including Peoples Democratic Party (PDP president Mehbooba Mufti and Jamia Masjid chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday made fervent appeals to Indian and Pakistani leadership for de-escalation of the situation, stressing that people of J&K are bearing the brunt of the latest hostilities. Mehbooba broke down and implored that for how long will the people of J&K suffer for no fault of theirs. 'What is the fault of the children and women that they are getting trapped in this crossfire? Be it Pulwama or Pahalgam, they remind us how they brought us close to destruction. Kargil, Pathankot, Pulwama or Pahalgam - military action treats symptoms, not the root cause of illness. It never provides a solution nor any consistent peace,' Mehbooba said during a press conference. 'I saw a child's dead body in Poonch and the same situation from the other side. How long will people of J&K, especially the border areas, suffer the consequences? Till when our mothers lose their children,' she said. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq called for restraint to prevent destruction. In a post on X Mirwaiz, who was not allowed to go to Jama Masjid today said: 'As the threat of war intensifies and the loss of precious lives continues, deep sorrow and anxiety grips our hearts. Unfortunately, whenever tensions rise between India and Pakistan, the brunt which follows is primarily borne by the people of Jammu and Kashmir...' .
