Clerics urge Muslim community to follow government guidelines for Eid sacrifice

Ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, Muslim clerics on Wednesday (May 4, 2025) urged members of the community to strictly follow the government guidelines while performing sacrifice and avoid sharing pictures of slaughtered animals on social media. In his message to Muslims, Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind President Maulana Arshad Madani said that there is no substitute for sacrifice in Islam as it is a religious duty. A person on whom sacrifice is obligatory must perform this obligation, he said. However, Mr. Madani said that in view of the current situation, it is important that Muslims take precautionary measures on their own and avoid advertising and sharing of pictures of slaughtered animals on social media. The Shahi Imam of the Jama Masjid, Delhi, urged the Muslim community to refrain from performing animal sacrifices in open areas or on the streets. The festival is to be celebrated on June 7. Jamiat President Madani also urged Muslims to strictly follow the government guidelines while performing sacrifice, avoid the sacrifice of prohibited animals. He also said that if mischievous elements, at any place, prevent the sacrifice of a black animal (buffalo) also, influential people should take the administration into confidence, and then sacrifice should be offered. "If, however, there is no way to fulfil this religious obligation, then a sacrifice should be offered in a nearby place where there is no difficulty," he said. Advising Muslims to exercise patience and restraint in response to any provocative actions by communal elements, Madani stressed that such incidents should definitely be reported to the local police station. The Shahi Imam of the Jama Masjid, Syed Shaban Bukhari, advised people to ensure cleanliness in their localities during the festival. "Just as festivals like Holi and Diwali are celebrated with dignity across India, Eid-ul-Adha too should be observed with respect and reverence," the Imam said in a statement. Mr. Bukhari further emphasised that during the festival, the Muslim community must remain mindful of a few key responsibilities. "Most importantly, no act should hurt the sentiments or beliefs of fellow citizens. Therefore, sacrifices must be conducted only within private premises such as homes or designated enclosures - not on roads or in open spaces," he said. He also appealed to the community to refrain from photographing or filming the act of sacrifice and strictly advised against uploading such images or videos on social media. "Islam is a religion of peace, and it is our duty to demonstrate this through our conduct by ensuring that no one's emotions are harmed," the Imam said. Further advising the community to remember that Islam teaches respect for all religions and instructs its followers to never hurt others' sentiments, he asserted that the ritual of sacrifice must be performed in a manner that upholds the rule of law and maintains communal harmony.

Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind to move court against ‘forced closure' of unrecognised madrassas in UP

Senior member and the Jamiat's legal adviser Maulana Kaab Rashidi told PTI that the committee discussed recent administrative actions taken particularly in districts bordering Nepal, such as Bahraich, Shravasti, Balrampur and Maharajganj, where several unrecognised madrassas have allegedly been shut down by the authorities. The decision was taken during a key meeting of the state executive committee of the Jamiat held here under the chairmanship of state president Maulana Ashhad Rashidi. Lucknow, May 22 (PTI) The Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind on Thursday alleged that the Uttar Pradesh government is forcibly closing down unrecognised madarassas in the state and said it has decided to approach the Allahabad High Court against the 'unconstitutional' move which 'violates educational rights'. 'We will approach the Allahabad High Court against the move,' he said. Rashidi said madrassas are protected under the Right to Education Act and cited a 2014 judgment by a five-judge bench of the Supreme Court that upheld the constitutional validity and protection of madrassa education. 'Despite the UP government's order dated December 20, 2023, directing a halt on action against madrassas, the forced closures continue in violation of constitutional norms,' he said. Over 200 madrassas have been shut down across districts like Bahraich, Shravasti, Maharajganj, Siddharthnagar, Balrampur, Lakhimpur Kheri and Pilibhit on allegations of illegal encroachment and lack of recognition. Rashidi also stated that the meeting extensively discussed the Waqf (Amendment) Act and informed the attendees that petitions challenging the law are currently pending before the Supreme Court. 'Future strategy will be formulated based on the court's decision and directives from the central leadership,' he added. The committee further deliberated on ways to ensure 100 per cent literacy among Muslims. As part of this initiative, district units of the Jamiat have been given specific guidelines to promote education within the community. The meeting saw participation from over 150 representatives, including Jamiat's state vice president Mufti Ashfaq, general secretary Hafiz Abdul Quddus and members from various district units. Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind backs ‘Operation Sindoor', pledge support for nat'l security

Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind on Wednesday extended full support to the Indian Army's 'Operation Sindoor', terming it a justified response to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. Jamiat president reaffirmed the organisation's unwavering commitment to India's sovereignty, integrity, and security. 'If any attempt is made by Pakistan to impose war, we declare in clear and unequivocal terms that the entire country—people of all religions, especially Muslims—will stand like a rock with our armed forces,' president of Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind, Maulana Mahmood Madani, said. The cross-border strike, carried out early Wednesday, targeted and destroyed terrorist hideouts in Pakistan. (Sourced) Calling India 'our homeland,' he added, 'Protecting it is our national and constitutional duty. Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind has always upheld the message of patriotism, peace, and unity. And today, when our borders are under threat, we pledge to stand shoulder to shoulder with our armed forces.' Maulana Mahmood Madani further said the organisation would continue promoting the spirit of unity, patience, and sacrifice at every level. 'We appeal to the Government of India to respond strongly to any act of aggression. Our enemies must understand that India will defend its homeland at all costs—as one united nation,' he said. Maulana Syed Kaab Rashidi, legal advisor to Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind and a Supreme Court advocate, said the action had brought peace to the victims' families. 'Every victim of Pahalgam must have breathed a sigh of relief today. Their hearts have found peace,' he said. 'The Indian Army has given a befitting reply to Pakistan, showing the world that no one will dare to look at India with evil intent.' Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi, national president of the All India Muslim Jamaat, accused Pakistan of harbouring terrorists. 'Pakistan nurtures and shelters terrorists while denying it to the world. Like a thief, it orchestrates attacks in India,' he said, calling the Indian Air Force strike 'essential' to eliminate these threats. In Moradabad, former Samajwadi Party MP ST Hasan credited both the Indian Army and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the operation. 'Terrorists have no religion. By killing innocents in the name of Islam, they tried to defame it and spark Hindu-Muslim riots. Thanks to our Hindu brothers, this conspiracy was foiled,' Hasan stated. He reiterated the message of unity: 'We are all Indians, regardless of religion. The world must understand this.' He also issued a warning to Pakistan, saying, 'If Pakistan retaliates, it will prove it supports terrorists and be responsible for its own destruction.'
