Man, 71, dies and woman taken to hospital after crash

A man has died and a woman has been taken to hospital following a crash in West Lothian. Emergency services were called to reports of a crash involving a Volvo XC90 at around 5.55pm on Friday on Blaeberryhill Road at Glenmore in Whitburn. The driver of the car, a 71-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, a 74-year-old woman, was taken to hospital to be checked over. Police Scotland said enquiries into the crash are ongoing and urged anyone with information to come forward. Sergeant Jamie Humpage said: 'Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died and our enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing. 'I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash who hasn't already spoken to officers to please get in touch. 'I would also ask anyone who was in the area at the time and may have dash-cam footage which could assist to contact us.' Officers confirmed that a 71-year-old man, who was driving the car, was found injured. He was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. A 74-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the car, was rushed to hospital to be checked over. Her current condition is not yet known. No other vehicles were involved in the smash.
