Irish drug mule 'caught red-handed' smuggling cannabis into Norway learns fate
An Irish drug mule who was 'caught red-handed' smuggling nearly 30kg of cannabis worth €600k into Norway from Thailand has been jailed for three years, we can exclusively reveal.
Jamie Mahon (32), of Moneymore in Drogheda, Co Louth was arrested by Norwegian police at Oslo's Gardermoen Airport on Thursday, January 9 on suspicion of smuggling two suitcases filled with cannabis.
She was arrested after arriving on a flight from Bangkok in Thailand after she was stopped by Customs Officers following an X-ray examination of her suitcases which showed irregularities.
Our exclusive image shows Ms Mahon collecting the two suitcases full of cannabis while on a mobile phone at Bangkok airport before boarding her flight to Oslo.
Court documents show Ms Mahon is alleged to have told authorities that the suitcases were given to her by someone in Thailand and that she was unaware of the contents.
Court documents also showed she explained 'she was only going to stop over in Norway on her way to Ireland.'
She had been remanded in custody in January and has now been sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty.
Ms Mahon entered a guilty plea and was described in the court document as 'being caught red-handed' and a 'courier whose activity is crucial for bringing the drug to the market and it follows from case law that couriers should be dealt with strictly.'
'The violation is serious because particular emphasis is placed on the quantity,' the court document says, adding Ms Mahon 'consented to the case being decided by a guilty verdict.'
'Based on this, the court has found it proven that the accused has behaved as described in the charges, and that she has acted intentionally,' the court document said.
In sentencing Ms Mahon, the court document showed Ms Mahon was sentenced to three years in prison and 92 days served in detention will be deducted from the sentence.
Earlier we revealed the drugs were destined for Drogheda and the seizure dealt a severe blow to two on-the-run brothers, who head the gang who are at war with associates of paralysed mob boss Owen Maguire.
The brothers - who are understood to be in Dubai and Thailand respectively - cannot be named as they are charged with serious offences. Warrants have been issued for their arrests.
Maguire was shot a number of times by now slain serial killer Robbie Lawlor in July 2018 and was left paralysed and in a wheelchair.
That shooting escalated the Drogheda feud which claimed the lives of four people including 17-year-old Keane Mulready-Woods who was murdered and dismembered in a house in Rathmullan Park in the town in January 2020
His body parts were dumped in a housing estate in Dublin's Cooklock and his head, hands and feet were discovered in a burnt out car in Dublin's Drumcondra days later.
Slain serial killer Lawlor -who was shot dead in Belfast in April 2020 - is suspected of Keane's murder and dismemberment.
Drogheda criminal Paul Crosby (30) pleaded guilty to facilitating the murder and was jailed for ten years at the Special Criminal Court in 2023.
His co-accused Gerard 'Rocky' Cruise (52) was jailed for seven years for the same offence.
