Record setting 20 inches of rain to end spring

Over the past two months, the Ozarks have received more than 20 inches of rain, driven by relentless waves of severe weather. 2025 dethroned an 80-year-old record for the wettest April and May combined. This made me curious about the record for any two months. So I dove into the record books to find out. I found these two months rank as the third-wettest on record for Springfield. Date Total Precipitation 1958 – June & July 23.81″ 1945 – March & April 21.01″ 2025 – April & May 20.86″ 1943 – May & June 20.85″ This recent stretch of heavy rainfall trails only the summer deluge of 1958 and the spring storms of 1945. What makes this especially noteworthy is the frequency and intensity of the storms, many of which brought tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail along with the rain. Missouri is tied for top spot in tornado count by state with a shocking 105 so far this year. As we head into June, as most locals know, we will slowly transition away from the stormier pattern into calmer and warmer conditions. This year will be no exception, especially once we get into the middle of the month. Regardless, April and May of 2025 have already secured their place in the weather history books. Tuesday, April 8 forecast: A full week of spring

It's another cold morning with spots around the Ozarks starting the day below freezing. Like yesterday, the cold will fade away and we'll find a beautiful afternoon with temperatures in the 60s and sun-filled skies. Download our KOLR 10 weather app Temperatures will easily avoid freezing tonight, dipping down into the mid-40s. When will we put freezing temperatures away for good? Chief Meteorologist Jamie Warriner explains more. The weather pattern has done a full one-eighty compared to last week. No significant weather is expected through Sunday. However, there will be a moisture-starved storm moving through the region Wednesday and Thursday. A weak cold front on Wednesday will slide through the Ozarks and we may be able to squeak out a stray shower closer to the St. Louis area Wednesday afternoon. Thursday will offer up a better chance for some pop-up showers and isolated thunderstorms, mainly east of Hwy. 65 during the heat of the afternoon. Even then, rain will be spotty with most areas remaining dry. Good news after the rain we've seen recently! We'll be slightly cooler on Friday, with clouds developing by afternoon. The weekend is shaping up to be fantastic! Saturday promises sunnier skies and warmer temperatures with highs near 80° on Sunday. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Tuesday, March 18 forecast: Ending winter windy and warm

Surveys continue to be released with new findings from the National Weather Service offices in Springfield, MO and Little Rock, Arkansas from Friday night's storms. Ozarks First Chief Meteorologist Jamie Warriner provided an overview of the findings on Monday night. Download our KOLR 10 weather app Today will be another warm and windy day, even more so than on Monday. Temperatures today will make a run at 80° with a strong south wind at 20 to 30 mph. Winds today could gust over 40 mph so once again fire danger will be high this afternoon. Winter's last full day on Wednesday will be mild and very windy in the morning and get colder in the afternoon. Light rain showers will overspread the Ozarks from west to east on Wednesday afternoon into the evening. Temperatures may get cold enough to even support some light snow flurries Wednesday night before midnight! Accumulations of rain and snow will be light. Winter ends and spring begins on Thursday. Ironically, the first day of spring is the coldest day on the 7-day forecast. Temperatures on Thursday will be in the low to mid-50s with sunny skies and a breezy northwest wind. We should mostly avoid a freeze Thursday night staying in the upper 30s and temperatures will bounce back to near 70° on Friday. Friday will be another windy day with south winds at 15 to 25 mph and we may squeeze a few rain showers out by Friday night. This weekend will be mild in the 60s both Saturday and Sunday. There is a chance for rain and thunderstorms again on Saturday night into Sunday. Severe weather isn't expected with this storm at this time. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
