C.J. Mosley Still Helping the New York Jets
C.J. Mosley Still Helping the New York Jets originally appeared on Athlon Sports. For the first time this decade, The New York Jets will be without C.J. Mosley as a captain on defense. Mosley spent five seasons with the Jets, all of them serving as defensive captain, including a Pro Bowl season. Advertisement After years of great linebacker play on the inside, Mosley was released by the Jets as a post-June 1 cut. Despite looking for a new job in a different city, Mosley has remained close to the team's facility in Florham Park. Mosley continues to be an asset to the Jets, as one particular player has been leaning on him for guidance during camp: Quincy Williams. Williams is one of the premiere players on New York's defense. He has been partnered with Mosely on the inside for the past four seasons, including a First-Team All-Pro 2023 campaign. Williams has developed from a third-round flameout with Jacksonville to one of the NFL's best linebackers in New York. Williams' development, combined with Jamien Sherwood stepping up as both a defensive disrupter and a leader helped soften the blow of the Jets losing Mosley. Advertisement Mosley's leadership will still be missing in the locker room and off the field, and it's up to Williams to take on that load. Williams has stayed in touch with Mosley, and has relied on him for help. 'C.J. came to my camp this weekend, so we had a conversation,' Williams said at Jets OTAs on Tuesday. 'Also, he's still in New Jersey, so we've grabbed lunch a couple of times. Right now it's the mindset of picking his brain on how to be more of a leader. When he came to the Jets, to a new team, he actually sat out a year." 'So it was like what are the things that you worked on to come to a team that you really didn't know? How did you become a leader to those guys?' Without aging veterans such as Aaron Rodgers and Mosley, it's up to some of the younger Jets with tenure to pick up the slack. Williams fits the bill, as a six-year NFL veteran with accolades to boot. PFF: Two Jets linebackers named among 32 best in the NFL The New York Jets have one of the best sets of linebackers in the NFL according to Pro Football Focus. The football analytics outlet named their top-32 linebackers in the NFL heading into the 2025 season. The Jets had two names pop up on the list. Following his breakout 2024 year which earned him a contract extension, Jamien Sherwood cracked the rankings at No. 28 overall. Along with Sherwood, Quincy Williams leads the way for the Jets on this list at the No. 11 position. Heading into his first season in charge, having a promising linebacker duo could be profitable for new head coach Aaron Gleen. PFF's breakdown on Williams can be found here: Although Williams' 2024 season wasn't his best work, it wasn't without its positives. His 74.3 PFF run-defense grade marked a career high. While his coverage metrics took a hit, he isn't far removed from an 88.7 PFF overall grade in 2023, which earned him All-Pro honors. Should he be able to return to that level of play in 2025 under Aaron Glenn, he could be looking at more accolades. And here is PFF's breakdown on Sherwood:

How New York Jets LB Jamien Sherwood earned a second pay day this week
How New York Jets LB Jamien Sherwood earned a second pay day this week It's a good week to be New York Jets linebacker Jamien Sherwood. Prior to the start of the NFL's 2025 free agency period, the Jets managed to lock Sherwood into an extension. Following his breakout year, Sherwood landed a three-year deal in New York worth $45 million. For his efforts in that big campaign in 2024, Sherwood is now earning a second check. Sherwood has been awarded $1.092M through the NFL's performance-based pay program. Not only did Sherwood get that nice pay bump, it was largest one given to any player in the league: The performance-based pay program is described on the NFL's website as: "collectively bargained benefit that compensates all players based upon their playing time and salary levels." Sherwood was the lone player from the Jets to earn an added bonus. Jets Wire will continue to provide updates throughout the 2025 offseason.

Reports: Jets retain MLB Jamien Sherwood on 3-year, $45M deal
March 10 - The New York Jets have retained standout middle linebacker Jamien Sherwood with a three-year, $45 million deal, according to reports on Sunday night. The deal reportedly includes $30 million in guaranteed money. Sherwood was New York's team MVP last season when he recorded a career-best 158 tackles, including an NFL-best 98 solo stops. He also had two sacks while playing in all 17 games (16 starts). Sherwood, 25, was a priority to the Jets and recently hired general manager Darren Mougey and coach Aaron Glenn. The club wanted to sign Sherwood before he hit the free agent market. Sherwood's leap into stardom could spell the end of C.J. Mosley's New York tenure. Mosley is a candidate to be released. Sherwood was a fifth-round pick in 2021 and only started seven games over his first three seasons before making a big step last season. Overall, Sherwood has 235 tackles in 56 games (23 starts) in four NFL seasons.
