Ex-champion Jan Blachowicz reacts to UFC Fight Night 255 loss: 'I'll leave the verdict for discussion'

Jan Blachowicz released a statement following his UFC Fight Night 255 loss. In his first fight since July 2023, Blachowicz (29-11-1 MMA, 12-8-1 UFC) was outpointed by Carlos Ulberg (12-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC) in this past Saturday's co-main event at The O2 in London. The former UFC light heavyweight champion was disappointed in the outcome, and thinks the judges got it wrong. 'This camp was one of the best I've had. I missed this, every part of this game. The welcome and support during fight week #UFCLondon from the whole @ufc team was amazing – I knew you missed me, but I didn't know it was like this! 😀 Thank you! More controversy on the record, as it turns out the approach to significant strikes doesn't align with the actual meaning. I'll leave the verdict for discussion. What happened in the stands after the announcement, and what's happening online right now, is pretty telling 😉 I appreciate it, but the verdict is out there, and unfortunately, it will stay on my record. We keep moving forward, going for more. Your support has been huge, and I'll remember this moment for a long time #TeamJanek 🙌🏻 #LegendaryPolishPower.' Blachowicz, 42, is now winless in his past three fights. He battled current champion Magomed Ankalaev to a split draw at UFC 282, dropped a split decision to ex-champ Alex Pereira at UFC 291, and now a unanimous decision to streaking contender Ulberg. Jan Blachowicz vs. Carlos Ulberg prediction, pick, start time for UFC Fight Night 255

Jan Blachowicz and Carlos Ulberg meet Saturday on the main card of UFC Fight Night 255 at The O2 in London. Check out this quick breakdown of the matchup from MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom. Last event: 2-4 UFC main cards, 2025: 21-20-1 Jan Blachowicz vs. Carlos Ulberg UFC London preview Former light heavyweight champion Blachowicz (29-10-1 MMA, 12-7-1 UFC) is back for the first time in around 20 months. He was set to retun from a split decision loss to Alex Pereira in January 2024, but was sidelined by a shoulder surgery. He's looking for his first win since May 2022. … Ulberg (12-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC) dropped his UFC debut in a Fight of the Night winner, but hasn't looked back. He's on a seven-fight winning streak to get into contention. He's had fights against ex-champ Jamahal Hill and former title challengers Anthony Smith and Dominick Reyes scrapped – over whom wins would've done wonders for his title hopes. A win over an ex-champ like Blachowicz would be his biggest one yet. Jan Blachowicz vs. Carlos Ulberg UFC London expert pick, prediction The co-main event in London features a potential crossroads fight at light heavyweight between Jan Blachowicz and Carlos Ulberg. Despite Blachowicz's rich history as coming through as an underdog in the UFC, I have a hard time getting my hopes too high for a 42-year-old coming off a 20-month layoff. More importantly, from a stylistic perspective, I'm not sure how much play Blachowicz's takedowns will have considering the glimpses of improvements we've seen from Ulberg. Not only does Ulberg have the athletic sprawl you'd expect from his first layer of defense, but the City Kickboxing product is also good about circling off of his sprawls and underhooks so that he can get back to the center of the cage. Ulberg also showed some solid offensive looks and a natural aptitude for topside offense in his fight with Da Woon Jung, so don't be shocked to see the New Zealand native attempt to flip the script on the former champ. Although part of me will be cheering for the Pole, I'm officially predicting a statement performance from Ulberg that's sparked off by the speed of his lead hand. The pick is Ulberg by knockout in Round 1. Jan Blachowicz vs. Carlos Ulberg UFC London odds The oddsmakers and the public are favoring the younger fighter, listing Ulberg -290 and Blachowicz +225 via FanDuel. Jan Blachowicz vs. Carlos Ulberg UFC London start time, how to watch Blachowicz and Ulberg are expected to walk to the cage at approximately 6:15 p.m. ET. The fight will stream on ESPN+. No home, food or phone: Blachowicz's 'detox' from life

While Jan Blachowicz was recovering from the most serious injuries of his distinguished career, he decided to do something memorable. During his 20 months away from the octagon following surgery on both shoulders, the former UFC light-heavyweight champion decided to enter a reality television show. For one month, the Pole raced across the Philippines and Thailand on foot... without a home, food, money or a phone. Of the 12 two-person teams who took part in the show, Blachowicz and his team-mate came first. "It was a great adventure to survive without a phone and without money, finding a place to sleep and asking people for help - it was an amazing experience," he said. "One time we found a place to sleep after 10 minutes of looking, another day you ask people for help but they say 'no', and it can take four to five hours to find a place. "Normally you don't spend your holidays like this. After three days people would say 'enough, I will go to a hotel now'. I survived a whole month - we won this show, me and my friend." UFC London - all you need to know Meet the next great British MMA heavyweight hope On Saturday at UFC London at the O2 Arena, the 42-year-old returns for the first time since a split-decision defeat by Alex Pereira in 2023 when he takes on New Zealand's Carlos Ulberg in the co-main event. Blachowicz, who won his only UFC title in 2020 before making one successful defence, says the experience in Asia felt like a "detox". "It's weird and funny because a lot of adventures happen, but I am happy I have a shower at my home, a warm place and food in the fridge," he added. "Now I appreciate the simple things more - I don't need a fancy car. I appreciate a shower because some people, they didn't have a shower, it was a home with nothing and you sleep on the floor. "A lot of the places were very poor, so I appreciate the simple things." Blachowicz experienced some difficult moments during his rehabilitation following double shoulder surgery, adding he "felt worse three months after surgery than he did before". "You're not 20 years old anymore - you just have to wait a little longer and it will be good," the doctors advised him. Eventually, he started to feel better, before taking his place on the reality show. The difficulties Blachowicz faced in recovery during the twilight of his career would have forced many athletes into retirement, but he has a simply reason for fighting on. "Because I want to. I miss the feelings that happen in fight week, the emotions," he added. "I like fighting, I don't have to do it, I can stop right now because I have a lot of things I could do. But I want to do it, I love to do it." MMA schedule and results 2025 Watch every Born to Brawl episode Notifications, social media and more with BBC Sport
