Christie Clinic Illinois Race Weekend still asking for volunteers
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Thousands of people are gearing up for the Christie Clinic Illinois Race Weekend, but organizers are still looking for extra help to keep things running smoothly.
The race director said they need about 400 more people to reach their goal of 2,000 volunteers. For 16 years, the race has been one of the largest gatherings in Champaign County. It's impact on the economy is a big deal too, as it brings in nearly $5 million over the span of three days.

The director said the volunteers help in many different areas.
'We need people to still help work on the course. If you've never been inside Memorial Stadium on the ground, you could still sign up to be someone who hands out bottles of water or heat sheets,' said Christie Clinic Illinois Race Weekend director Jan Seeley. 'We need volunteers to help with food up in the Great West Hall. There's still openings at the expo, so there's plenty of time to still be involved in what's arguably one of the best events in our community.'
She also said they're offering a free CPR class for 200 people on April 25. They'll host the training at Memorial Stadium at 3 p.m. that day. Their goal is to teach the lifesaving class just in case there's another incident like last year when a man went into cardiac arrest during the marathon.
Seeley said participants have to be at least 17 years old to volunteer. The race weekend events will take place from April 24-26.
