Happy Sita Navami Wishes 2025: Sita Navami, also known as Sita Jayanti, is one of the widely celebrated festivals for Hindus. The day marks the birth anniversary of Goddess Sita, the revered consort of Lord Rama. It is celebrated with great fervour and zest throughout India.
Sita Navami is also widely celebrated in Nepal. It's believed that Maa Sita was born in Janakpur city of Nepal.
As per Hindu mythology, Maa Sita was born on the Navami Tithi, or ninth day of Shukla Paksha in the month of Vaishakh. So, the day is celebrated as Sita Navami.
Mata Sita is also known as Janaki since she was the daughter of King Janaka of Mithila. Hence, this day is also referred to as Janaki Navami.
This auspicious day holds great significance for Hindu devotees, particularly married women who fast and pray for their husbands' health and longevity.
This year, the festival is being celebrated today, on Monday, May 5.

The Navami Tithi will prevail from 7:30 am on Monday to 8:38 am on Tuesday, as per Drik Panchang.
The Madhyahna Mahurat will begin at 10:59 am and will last for 2 hours and 40 minutes, till 1:39 pm.
Goddess Sita is believed to have been born on Tuesday in Pushya Nakshatra. The Hindu goddess married Lord Rama, who was also born on Navami Tithi in Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month. As per the Hindu calendar, Sita Jayanti falls one month after Rama Navami.
Sita Navami Puja Vidhi
On Sita Navami, devotees engage in several activities to seek the blessings of Goddess Sita. Many devotees fast from sunrise until sunset, taking just water or fruits.
Also, special puja ceremonies are held in homes and temples. Devotees sing hymns and recite the Ramayana, especially the episodes that highlight the virtues and life events of the Goddess.
Celebrations at Sita's Birth Place
According to Hindu mythology, Goddess Sita was born in the Mithila kingdom, which was governed by King Janaka. Her birthplace is believed to be Janakpur, which is now in Nepal.
It is said that King Janaka found Sita as an infant in a furrow while ploughing the field. He was struck by her angelic presence and adopted her, raising her as his daughter. As a result, she is also known as Janki, a nickname derived from King Janaka's name.
On the other hand, it's also believed that the Janaki Temple in Sitamarhi district of Bihar is the place where King Janaka discovered the infant Sita while ploughing a field.
Sita Jayanti Significance
According to Hindu scriptures, Goddess Sita was an incarnation of Maa Laxmi, who married Lord Ram, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. In Ramcharitmanas, there are different stories about Maa Sita's journey from Swayamvar to becoming a single mother, her struggles during exile and how she lived in Lanka when the Demon King Ravana abducted her.
Maa Sita stands as a great inspiration to all women. Her life is seen as an epitome of sacrifices to uphold the values of family and society. Despite all odds, she exhibited exemplary strength to successfully withstand all trying circumstances.
During her time in Lanka, she spent her days sitting under the Ashoka tree, crying and remembering Lord Shri Ram. Upon her return, she had to go through agni pariksha to establish her purity and was then sent to the forest to live in Sage Valmiki's ashram, where she became a mother and raised her two sons, Luv and Kush.
