Nepal backs as India hits Pakistan-based terror camps under 'Operation Sindoor'

Nepal on Thursday evening expressed its support for India's actions under "Operation Sindoor," saying it stands with "all in the fight against terrorism." In a statement, Nepal's foreign ministry said, "Nepal stands together with all in the fight against terrorism. In line with its principled position, Nepal shall not allow any inimical forces to use its soil against its neighbouring countries.' The remarks came after growing calls from Nepali lawmakers since Wednesday for the government to take a clear stand on terrorism, following India's strikes on suspected terrorist camps inside Pakistan in the wake of April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 25 Indian tourists and one Nepali national. The ministry expressed concern over the growing tensions between India and Pakistan after the attack on innocent tourists. "The Government of Nepal is deeply concerned about the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, following the terrorist attack on innocent tourists in Pahalgam, India on 22 April 2025, in which a Nepali national also lost his precious life," the statement read. "During this tragic period, Nepal and India stood in solidarity, united in shared grief and suffering," Nepal's foreign affairs ministry said. The ministry also recalled Nepal's earlier response to the incident, saying, "It may be recalled that Nepal had immediately and unequivocally condemned the barbaric terrorist attack, consistent with its resolute stance against all forms of terrorism." Earlier on Thursday, hours before the Nepal government's response, CPN-Maoist Centre's Deputy Secretary General Janardan Sharma publicly backed India's anti-terror operation. On a Facebook post, he said, "India has conducted 'Operation Sindoor' against terrorism. Terrorism is the worst thing that can happen to human civilisation. It should be the duty of every nation to fight against terrorism. At the same time, it is necessary to defeat terrorism through mutual cooperation for peace and stability." Tensions between India and Pakistan have sharply escalated following a recent terror attack in Kashmir. India's Defence Ministry said it carried out 'Operation Sindoor' as a focused and limited strike, without hitting Pakistani military bases. India warned that any attack on its military would bring a strong response. On the night of May 7–8, Pakistan launched drones and missiles at several Indian military sites across Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. Indian air defence systems intercepted the attacks, and debris found on the ground confirmed the attempted strikes. In response, India targeted Pakistani air defence systems early Friday, reportedly destroying a key system in Lahore. The Defence Ministry said India's response matched Pakistan's actions in scale and kind. Meanwhile, Pakistan stepped up its firing along the Line of Control, using heavy artillery and mortars in several border sectors. At least sixteen civilians in India, including women and children, were killed.

Stands together with all in the fight against terrorism: Nepal Foreign Ministry

Kathmandu [Nepal], May 9 (ANI): Nepal on Thursday evening voiced support with 'all in the fight against terrorism', reacting to India's 'Operation Sindoor.' 'Nepal stands together with all in the fight against terrorism. In line with its principled position, Nepal shall not allow any inimical forces to use its soil against its neighbouring countries,' the Nepal foreign ministry stated in a release. Reacting further over the Operation Sindoor, the release stated, 'The Government of Nepal is deeply concerned about the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, following the terrorist attack on innocent tourists in Pahalgam, India on 22 April 2025, in which a Nepali national also lost his precious life. During this tragic period, Nepal and India stood in solidarity, united in shared grief and suffering.' 'It may be recalled that Nepal had immediately and unequivocally condemned the barbaric terrorist attack, consistent with its resolute stance against all forms of terrorism,' the foreign ministry added. Nepali lawmakers, since Wednesday, after India targeted the terrorist hotbeds inside Pakistan, had been demanding the government's stand against terrorism. On Wednesday, lawmaker Sarbendra Nath Shukla from Loktantrik Samajbadi Party had called on the government to maintain distance from those countries that are known for supporting terrorism. 'Nepal while standing against the terrorism, those countries who directly or indirectly support the terrorism we should maintain the distance. The government should give enough attention to it, otherwise, relations with those countries might result in Nepal being a common playground to harbour terrorism,' the lawmaker had said. Hours before the Foreign Ministry's release, CPN-Maoist Center's Deputy Secretary General Janardan Sharma also had welcomed the move of India in fight against terrorism. 'India has conducted 'Operation Sindoor' against terrorism. Terrorism is the worst thing that can happen to human civilisation. It should be the duty of every nation to fight against terrorism. At the same time, it is necessary to defeat terrorism through mutual cooperation for peace and stability,' Sharma wrote on Facebook. Defence Ministry said in a statement that during the press briefing on Operation Sindoor yesterday, India had called its response as focused, measured and non-escalatory. It was specifically mentioned that Pakistani military establishments had not been targeted. It was also reiterated that any attack on military targets in India will invite a suitable response. It said that on the night of May 7-8, Pakistan attempted to engage a number of military targets in Northern and Western India including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj, using drones and missiles. These were neutralised by the Integrated Counter UAS Grid and Air Defence systems. The debris of these attacks is now being recovered from a number of locations that prove the Pakistani attacks. Today morning Indian Armed Forces targeted Air Defence Radars and systems at a number of locations in Pakistan. Indian response has been in the same domain with the same intensity as Pakistan. It has been reliably learnt that an Air Defence system at Lahore has been neutralised, the statement said. It said that Pakistan has increased the intensity of its unprovoked firing across the Line of Control using Mortars and heavy-calibre Artillery in areas in Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar and Rajouri sectors in Jammu and Kashmir. Sixteen innocent lives have been lost, including three women and five children, due to Pakistani firing. Here too, India was compelled to respond to bring Mortar and Artillery fire from Pakistan to a halt, the statement added. (ANI)

Nepal's Maoist Center Deputy Secy general welcomes

Kathmandu [Nepal], May 8 (ANI): Nepal's opposition Maoist Center's Deputy Secretary General Janardan Sharma has welcomed India's Operation Sindoor against terrorism. Taking to Facebook on Thursday, Sharma, a former Foreign and Finance Minister welcomed the strike by India on terror hotbeds inside Pakistan. 'India has conducted 'Operation Sindoor' against terrorism. Terrorism is the worst thing that can happen to human civilization. It should be the duty of every nation to fight against terrorism. At the same time, it is necessary to defeat terrorism through mutual cooperation for peace and stability,' Sharma wrote on Facebook. On Thursday's meeting of the House of Representatives, Nepali lawmakers voiced support to the countries fighting against terrorism and demanded for clear stance of the government against terrorism following the Operation Sindoor of India. Nepali Congress lawmaker Ramhari Khatiwada, while addressing the parliamentary meeting on Thursday stated that any of the country has right to defend itself against terrorism. Giving reference of various wars, the lawmaker also demanded for governments preparedness in wake of the geopolitical crisis. 'The war between Russia and Ukraine, Israel and Hamas, current policy of the US President, China- Taiwan unification attempt and its after effects, India's attack on Pakistan for harboring terrorism has further made us vulnerable. I would request the government to be ready to face any of those consequences,' Khatiwada said. 'In the fight against the terrorism, we should support any of the countries,' the ruling party lawmaker stressed. Another Nepali Congress lawmaker, Mukta Kumari Yadav also demanded the government to clear the nations stand against terrorism. 'Nepal has adopted the foreign policy of non-alignment but the nation needs to clear up the stance against the terrorism,' Yadav said. Following the terror attack in Pahalgam of Jammu and Kashmir in India, the Indian Armed Forces on Wednesday launched 'Operation Sindoor', carrying out precision strikes on nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), days after the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people. 'Our actions have been focused, measured and non-escalatory in nature. No Pakistani military facilities have been targeted. India has demonstrated considerable restraint in selection of targets and method of execution, said MoD. Further, as per the Ministry, these steps come in the wake of the 'barbaric' Pahalgam terrorist attack in which 25 Indians and one Nepali citizen were murdered. We are living up to the commitment that those responsible for this attack will be held accountable. (ANI)
