At Long Last, This Clement Street Ice Cream Wunderkind Is Back
Late-night sweet tooth hounds can quit yapping after too long yowling. Toy Boat by Jane, the ice cream and action figure-ringed outpost from Jane the Baker, has given fans its official reopening date. On Friday, June 13, the ice cream shop will open from noon until 10 p.m. The business's website says for the first two weeks it'll just be Friday through Sunday from noon to 10 p.m. Down the road, the days will expand to adding Wednesdays and Thursdays.
The business closed in November for construction and has been dark ever since. Though the expected reopening was set for March 2025, delays ran amok and fans kept walking by looking for signs of life. In addition to croissants and pumpkin breads, this location for the Jane empire is most beloved for highlighting local ice creams: Double Rainbow, Mitchell's Ice Cream and Hometown Creamery all work as starting players. Sundaes here go especially hard, but, on top of all that, is the nostalgic, cutesy decor and toys throughout the corner space.
A legendary three-Michelin-starred restaurant just started a sweet collaboration with one of San Francisco's top specialty coffee mini-chains. David Kinch's Manresa linked with Rich Lee and Liza Otanes's Spro Coffee Lab to roll out a wide array of sweet and savory treats. As of Monday, June 23, fans of both and either purveyor can get the exclusive goods at any of Spro's now four (!) outposts in the city. Perfect timing for such a singular collab as the husband-and-wife team unveiled competition coffee flights, too, a chance to drink the drinks barista champions serve at competitions around the world. These kinds of offerings are gaining popularity in specialty shops.
San Jose noodle fans rejoice: the San Francisco Chronicle reports Tsujita Artisan Noodle is about to open its first NorCal restaurant. On Saturday, June 21 the newest outpost will open at 4330 Moorpark Road. This location will boast the same menu as the Los Angeles restaurants that got the chain so much buzz. That'd be tsukemen, cold ramen noodles served with warm sauce on the side.
In more good news, and in San Jose's coffee world rather than noodles, Chayakada Cafe opened on Bernal Road on the first of the month. This cafe is a part of the burgeoning and booming South Asian coffee spree in the Bay Area, yes. But in addition the business sports a party hall, bar area, and full catering services. Indian filter coffee, arguably the most popular presentation for specialty coffee on the subcontinent, comes courtesy of the Bay's own all-Indian coffee roaster Le Mil's.
