‘I was shocked:' Parent reacts after charter school director arrested for alleged child pornography

LAYTON, Utah () — Parents are shocked after the director of a charter school in Layton was arrested for child sexual abuse material (CSAM). ABC4 visited the Leader Learning Academy campus in Layton, one of the locations that Jared Dallan Buckley, 40, oversaw. Buckley is currently being held without bail at the Davis County Jail, according to documents. Nancy Burns, a concerned parent, spoke with ABC4 over the phone about their experience with the director. 'I saw the news of the arrest, I was — I mean — I was shocked,' Burns said. 'I did a double-take, because I didn't know if I was reading that correctly… that's something I would think would be totally out of character of what I knew of him and the interactions I had with him.' 'He actually came to my daughter's 'Nutcracker' performance in December of 2018 on a Friday or Saturday night. Super nice guy. My kids have always compared every other principal to him because he made school so fun,' Burns stated. She stated that her children were very sad to find out the director had been arrested. They knew him back when they were in first, second, third grade. My son was … he had no words. He was very sad. And he was lost,' Burns shared. The Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force from the Utah Attorney General's Office has been hard at work to find out who is behind cases like these. Between April 15 and 17 of this year, who allegedly sexually exploited children online. 'We are here to protect children. Director of Utah charter school arrested for alleged production, distribution of child pornography

LAYTON, Utah () — The director of a K-6 charter school in Utah was arrested Tuesday for allegedly producing, selling, and distributing child sexual abuse material (CSAM), which is colloquially referred to as child pornography. Jared Dallan Buckley, 40, was arrested on two counts of aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor, both first-degree felonies; and one count of sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony. Former Boy Scout leader arrested on 42 felony counts for alleged sexual abuse over 10+ years According to an affidavit of probable cause filed in Davis County, law enforcement in New York sought help from Utah officials to identify an account that was reportedly 'selling and distributing child sex abuse material.' New York officials received CSAM files from the suspect in October 2024. 'Preliminary information, collected by the investigators who received this material, also suggests that the suspect could be involved in the production of child sexual abuse material involving children outside of the United States,' arrest documents read. Utah officials identified the owner of the device from which the CSAM was sent and confirmed that it was Buckley's cell phone. After executing a search warrant, that phone was found in Buckley's possession, and he was taken into custody. Officials found several CSAM files on Buckley's phone during a 'preliminary forensic examination of the device.' According to his biography on the school's website, Buckley has been employed with the charter school since 2014. As the 'Lead Director,' he oversees the charter school's campuses in Layton and Ogden. Arrest documents also allege that Buckley is 'involved with various local youth sports organizations.' Buckley was booked into the Davis County Jail on Tuesday evening and has been ordered to be held without bail. Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
