Terrebonne Parish President declares state of emergency over closed bridges
TERREBONNE PARISH, La (WGNO) — Terrebonne Parish President Jason Bergeron declared a state of emergency over seven out-of-order bridges in need of repair.
Officials said the state of emergency will help to facilitate a speedy repair and reopening of the bridges.
Boil water advisory issued for parts of Plaquemines Parish
The following parish-owned bridges are closed: The Dulac Pontoon Bridge, the Buquet Bridge and the St. Anthony Bridge.
The following state-owned bridges are closed: the Daigleville Bridge, Bayou Blue Pontoon Bridge, the Company Canal Bridge and the Boudreaux Canal Bridge.
According to the declaration, the simultaneous shutdown of seven bridges puts economic hardship on residents and businesses. It said some of the residents of Chauvin are relying on just one bridge to access their homes and businesses.
The declaration said that the lack of safe bridges is restricting resident's means of evacuating during storms. It also said that first responders rely on these bridges to respond to Orleans public defenders prepared to aid if Antoine Massey, Derrick Groves surrender
