Delhi: Dummy candidate found taking govt exam, cops swoop in to arrest him

Police busted a cheating racket in a government job examination with the arrest of a dummy candidate. They also apprehended a school teacher and two others who facilitated his entry. On May 18, police said the accused, Sumit Dahiya (29), entered a private school in Hemkunt Colony as a candidate for an exam being conducted by the CBSE. Hours later, he was arrested. According to police, a call was received at the Greater Kailash police station that a man was trying to impersonate someone during an exam for the position of Junior Secretariat attendant in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti. 'The school principal told us about the incident. Upon verification, it was found that a candidate named had sent a dummy — Dahiya — to appear in the examination on his behalf,' DCP (South) Ankit Chauhan said. Dahiya, police said, admitted that it was a three-member team, including a teacher from the school, who helped him enter the premises. 'The teacher, an office superintendent, and a woman were apprehended for facilitating his entry,' DCP Chauhan said. Police said further questioning revealed that Dahiya received Rs 6 lakh from a middleman who arranged the impersonation for the actual candidate. Dahiya then contacted a woman who knew the school staff. Dahiya offered her Rs 2 lakh. 'This woman contacted the teacher and office superintendent,' the DCP said. Efforts are on to nab the original candidate and the middleman.

Delhi: Dummy candidate, three aides held in Greater Kailash for links to govt job scam

An imposter and his three aides were arrested for a Rs 6 lakh deal facilitating appearance as a dummy candidate in a government exam held in south Delhi's Greater Kailash for recruitment of school staff, police said on Monday. Sumit Dahiya (29) was arrested for impersonating a candidate in an exam conducted by CBSE for recruiting staff of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti at an examination centre in a private school in Hemkunt Colony, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South District) Ankit Chauhan. Dahiya, who is preparing for competitive exams, disclosed during interrogation that a middleman had orchestrated the impersonation plan and promised to pay him Rs 6 lakh for appearing as a dummy candidate in place of the original candidate Ankur, the police said. DCP Chauhan said the original Aadhar card of Ankur, his admit card and the original OMR sheet in which the accused Dahiya had answered the questions were seized. 'Efforts are being made to nab Ankur and the middleman,' said the DCP, adding the impersonation bid was foiled on May 18. The other accused include a woman (name withheld), Baljeet Singh (59) and Bimal Kumar Singh (59), the police said. The police have booked them under penal provisions related to punishment for cheating by personation, cheating, dishonestly inducing delivery of property and criminal conspiracy. The arrested woman is a resident of Majra, Kanjhwala, Delhi, and is aged 40, the police said. She used to get the National Open School form filled for the Class 10 and 12 students and liaison with the school staff. She got an offer for Rs 2 lakh from Dahiya (known to her) for facilitating his entry as a dummy candidate in the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti examination, the police said. Accordingly, she contacted Bimal Kumar Singh, a private school teacher where the exam was to be held and a resident of Savitri Nagar, and Baljeet Singh, office superintendent and resident of Garhi in East of Kailash, and struck the deal. Each of them was paid Rs 50,000 to ensure Dahiya's unhindered entry into the school for impersonation during the examination, the police said.

Delhi Police busts exam cheating racket; dummy candidate, two school staff and woman held

New Delhi, Delhi Police has busted a cheating racket in a government job examination with the arrest of a dummy candidate, a school teacher, an office superintendent and a woman who allegedly facilitated the impersonation at an exam centre in Greater Kailash, an official said on Monday. The accused allegedly helped the dummy candidate impersonate a real applicant in the examination for the post of Junior Secretariat Attendant under the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, police said in a statement. The arrested people have been identified as Sumit Dahiya , who appeared as the dummy candidate, Bimal Kumar Singh , a physics teacher at the examination centre school, Baljeet Singh , the office superintendent of the same school, and a 40-year-old woman from Kanjhawala in Delhi, read the statement. The woman, who has links with the school staff, allegedly coordinated with them to allow Dahiya's entry into the examination hall using documents of the original candidate named Ankur, police said. "The matter came to light on May 18 when a team of Greater Kailash Police Station received information about an impersonation attempt at a private school in Hemkunt Colony, where the CBSE was conducting the JNV recruitment exam," Deputy Commissioner of Police , South, Ankit Chauhan, said in the statement. The DCP said that on reaching the spot, the school principal informed the police about suspected impersonation. Upon verification, it was revealed that Dahiya had appeared in place of a candidate named Ankur, police said. A case was subsequently registered and Dahiya was taken into custody. Dahiya disclosed during interrogation that he was promised ₹6 lakh by a middleman to appear in the examination as a proxy for the real candidate Ankur, they said. The DCP said that "Dahiya contacted a woman known to him who has prior connections with the school staff and offered her ₹2 lakh to facilitate his entry". "The woman, in turn, approached Bimal Kumar Singh and Baljeet Singh and paid them ₹50,000 each to assist in the plan," he added. The woman, police said, is known for helping students get admitted to open school exams and had existing links with school managements. She played a key role in connecting the dummy candidate with the insiders at the school. According to police, the trio the woman, the teacher, and the superintendent coordinated on the day of the exam to ensure Dahiya could enter and sit for the exam without being noticed. Ankur's original Aadhaar card and admit card, both of which were used to gain entry to the exam centre, were recovered from Dahiya's possession. Police also recovered the OMR sheet filled by Dahiya during the examination. All four accused were apprehended based on Dahiya's disclosure. Efforts are currently underway to arrest the original candidate, Ankur, and the middleman who arranged the deal, police said. Dahiya, a resident of Haryana's Sonipat, is a 12th-pass aspirant preparing for various competitive exams, they said. The school involved in this case is a private institution located in Hemkunt Colony which was designated as an examination centre by the CBSE for recruitment drive. Further investigation is underway, police said.
