Three drown in 2 incidents in Trichy dist
Trichy: A 35-year-old woman and her 11-year-old daughter drowned while bathing in a quarry lake near Thuvarankurichi in Trichy district. Similarly, a 17-year-old boy drowned in the Cauvery near Mukkombu. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The bodies were retrieved on Monday. Police said R Ulaganayagi and her daughter Jayashri from Samathuvapuram near Thuvarankurichi went to a quarry lake near their house to wash clothes and bathe on Sunday evening. They did not return home, and their relatives could not find them that night. On Monday morning, villagers spotted the bodies in the lake and fished them out. Police sent the bodies to Manapparai GH for postmortem. In another incident, S Dinesh Kumar, 17, from Edamalaipatti Pudur, and his friends went to the Mukkombu regulator to bathe in the Cauvery river on Sunday. Dinesh drowned in the river. His body was retrieved on Monday morning and sent to Trichy GH. Police registered separate cases under Section 194 (unnatural death) of BNSS and are investigating.

City school topper Jayashri bags seat at Ethiraj college with full scholarship
Chennai: R Jayashri, a Class XII topper from Chennai Girls Higher Secondary School (CGHSS) in Nungambakkam, has been offered a seat with a full scholarship by the of Ethiraj College. She will receive her admission letter once the admission process begins at the educational institute on Wednesday, said its chairman V M Muralidharan. The development comes two days after ToI reported her success story, along with her travails in mobilising resources for her higher of Ethiraj College for Women, V M Muralidharan, said, "When I read the TOI article after the Class XII results were published, I decided to support her by offering an admission seat at the college. We hope to extend similar support to many more students in the future.""The college chairman congratulated me, asked me to fill out the application form, and assured me admission to the college. It was an unexpected and unforgettable moment in my life. I am truly grateful for this opportunity, as I always dreamed of pursuing an undergraduate degree at Ethiraj College," Jayashri told TOI. She secured 572 marks in the Class XII board examinations and was the school topper at CGHSS, also topped her school in the SSLC exams in 2023, scoring 92% marks. Her elder sister, also a school topper in 2019 and 2021, studied at Ethiraj as well. "I want to ace UPSC exams and get into the Indian Railways, which has always been my dream. I started preparing for the civil services during my board exam study leave. After joining college, I plan to continue preparing for the UPSC exams alongside my studies," Jayashri added. Her parents, who struggled to arrange college fees, are overjoyed her education is now covered by a scholarship.

Two-time school topper aims career in railways
Chennai: Daughter of a local mechanic topped her school by scoring 572 marks at Chennai girls higher secondary school in Nungambakkam, which also achieved a 100% pass. R Jayashri , whose achievement is being widely celebrated, now plans to pursue civil services through the UPSC, aiming for a position in the Indian Railways ."Since we live in a tiny house there is no space to study, I used to visit my grandmother's house every day to study and then return home. It was difficult to afford guidebooks, and even though I never asked, my father would buy them for me, sometimes by borrowing money, as we don't have a stable income. Only with the support of my parents and teachers was I able to score high marks," said 2023, Jayashri topped CGHSS Nungambakkam in the SSLC exams with 92%. Her elder sister, who was also a school topper in 2019 and 2021, has been helping Jayashri by clarifying doubts, as both pursued the Business Maths stream."I would like to pursue a BCom at Ethiraj College and later appear for the UPSC exams to secure a position in the Indian Railways, which has always been a dream of mine. I have already started preparing for the civil services during the board exam leave," added Jayashri.
