Civic body deploys 24/7 teams, heavy machinery to clear debris
Ahmedabad: A massive operation is underway to clear the grim remnants of the death and destruction left behind by the crash. Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has deployed heavy machinery and a large team of workers to clear the debris that lies strewn over a large area, charred, broken or mangled.
Among it is the tail of the AI 171 lodged on the mess building. Till late Friday, two heavy-duty cranes and a technical team were working to remove this haunting piece from the deadly disaster.
Also deployed at other spots were 15 earth movers, five excavators, 25 trucks, one roller, and two heavy cranes. The operations are being overseen by 16 AMC staff members, a chief fire officer, an additional chief fire officer, a deputy chief fire officer, a divisional fire officer, three station officers, 16 firefighters, and seven other staff from Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services.
Four standby fire vehicles were also on-site.
Deputy municipal commissioner Jayesh Upadhyay stated, "The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau was provided with 40 labourers, 10 engineers, and three additional city engineers by AMC to look for the plane's black box, which was successfully located. Health and sanitation teams are working to maintain hygiene at the crash site. Seven medical vans and over 100 medical and paramedical staff are present for relief and rescue operations.

Relief and rescue operations continued through Thursday night. To ensure uninterrupted work at night, 10 AMC officials and staff from the light department, including an additional chief engineer, deputy city engineer, two assistant city engineers, two assistant engineers, and four technical supervisors, joined the efforts.
The light department installed five 125 kV diesel generator sets and approximately 100-200-watt LED floodlights.
Furthermore, professors, assistant professors, and tutors from Narendra Modi Medical College and NHL Medical College are assisting with postmortem and DNA testing at Civil Hospital.
Upadhyay added, "For deceased passengers, students, and citizens, ambulances and other vehicles have been arranged at Civil Hospital for relocation after required examinations. Employees of AMC's birth and death department are facilitating prompt issuance of death certificates."
