Juneteenth events happening around Tampa Bay this month
Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, kicks off with celebrations this weekend in advance of the holiday on June 19. It commemorates the day in 1865 when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free — a full two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
Here are ways we have found for the Tampa Bay area to celebrate.
