West Ham United complete £32.8m signing of Jean-Clair Todibo from Nice
West Ham United have completed the signing of Jean-Clair Todibo from Nice on a five-year deal for £32.8million (€39m; $44.3m). The 25-year-old defender initially joined in August on a season-long loan with an obligation to buy. West Ham retaining their Premier League status ensured the clause was activated. Todibo, who has two caps for France, rejected a move to Juventus last summer. Team-mate Alphonse Areola also advised the defender to turn down a switch to the Italian side. In January, Marseille enquired about Todibo's availability, but he informed his representatives he was happy at West Ham and had no interest in leaving. The former Toulouse and Barcelona centre-back is frustrated that a calf injury stalled his progress. He made 27 Premier League appearances, 21 of which were starts, but was substituted on 10 occasions. Advertisement Following the 3-1 victory over relegation side Ipswich Town, Todibo thanked supporters on social media. 'Ending the season with a win always feels good,' he tweeted. 'It might not be the position I was hoping for in my first year here, but we'll come back even stronger next season. Huge thanks to everyone for the support.'
