Severe storms, strong wind possible Sunday
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A strong cold front will sweep across the southeast this weekend bringing severe weather to much of the region, including the Lowcountry. 'The storm system impacting many of the Gulf Coast states will impact us Sunday,' said Storm Team 2 Meteorologist Jed Christoph. 'Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected, with the main threat being gusty straight-line winds.' Forecasters with the National Weather Service in Charleston said winds 60 mph and higher, isolated tornadoes, and hail are possible for some areas of the Lowcountry; however, the risk for hail, tornadoes, and heavy rain is low. Christoph said high winds and the potential for wind damage are the main concern Sunday morning and into the afternoon. 'The rain should clear the coast late Sunday, leaving us day and cooler on St. Patrick's Day,' he said. 'Storm Team 2 will be monitoring the radar trends for Sunday.'
