'Inexperienced' Teen Driver Gets Into Wild Accident on Long Island
A teen driver in Long Island is incredibly lucky following a hard-to-believe car wreck on Mother's Day. Officials told News 12 that the 17-year-old driver accidentally accelerated too hard, causing her silver 2008 Jeep SUV to drive through a bulkhead at the Brookhaven Town Marina in Port Jefferson Sunday night. The car went through the divider and nearly entered the Long Island Sound, but thankfully landed on floating dock. In a video shared by Brookhaven Town Supervisor Dan Panico on Facebook, you can see the car appearing to get ready to pull into a parking spot when it suddenly lurches forward through the barrier. "Every day, I wake up and never know what the day will bring," Panico wrote. "Moments ago, an inexperienced driver drove off the Port Jefferson Dock, and luckily onto a floating dock. Thankfully, no one was injured. "Thank you to our Parks Department, Public Safety and Fire Marshals, and the Suffolk County Police and Fire Departments for the quick response." Panico added that if not for the bulkhead, the car would have launched into the air, clearing the floating dock and landing in the water. The Jeep lost its front bumper and the boards of the floating dock were crushed in the mishap, but thankfully, the driver escaped with only minor injuries. She was removed from the scene by firefighters and taken to a local hospital for examination and then sent home. A "heavy duty tow truck" was requested to remove the vehicle from the dock, according to the Port Jefferson Fire Department, which also posted photos from the accident on its official Facebook page. Man hospitalized after train collides with vehicle in Orange
A man was hospitalized in critical condition after his car was struck by a passenger train in Orange Thursday night. Orange Police responded to the crash at the intersection of Glassell Street and Taft Avenue at 7:02 p.m. The driver, identified only as a 66-year-old Garden Grove man, was driving a Jeep SUV when witnesses saw the railroad crossing arms being lowered. The man continued traveling forward and drove through the lighted safety barriers as the oncoming train collided with his vehicle, police said. A photo from the scene showed the Jeep SUV was totaled by the impact. The driver required extrication by Orange City firefighters before he was transported to the hospital in critical condition. 'At this time, it is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a contributing factor for the collision,' authorities said. No other injuries to bystanders or train passengers were reported. Traffic on Taft Avenue was closed for hours as police investigated the scene. Anyone with additional information on the crash can call Detective Rocha at 714-744-7342. ‘Hearts are shattered': Friends, family react after Raleigh mom, 4 children die in fiery I-95 crash
RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Family and friends are struggling to cope with the death of a Raleigh mother and her four children in a weekend crash along Interstate 95 in Georgia. Reagan Dougan, 27, and her four children, ranging from ages 9 years old to just 3 months were headed from Raleigh to visit Reagan's husband in Florida when the wreck happened Sunday morning. 'Our hearts are shattered into a million pieces with the devastating loss of Reagan Dougan and her precious four children,' Jonesy CJ wrote on social media about family and friends of the Dougan family following the deaths. The two-car crash happened around 6 a.m. along Interstate 95 near exit 67 in McIntosh County, about 35 miles south of Savannah, Georgia. Dougan's children were ages 9, 4, 2, and 3 months. The family lived in Raleigh. 'I can't imagine what her poor husband and family are feeling. My heart is broken — tomorrow is never promised. I just have no words,' wrote Lindsey Marie, who went to high school with Reagan. 'Rest in peace, angel. You have NO idea how loved you were by so many.' I will never forget all the crazy things we used to get into, you taught me to live unapologetically,' Bailey Joy Sandvall wrote about Reagan Dougan. 'You were one of the strongest women I've ever known. I will forever love you.' The wreck happened while the Jeep SUV of the Dougans was traveling south in the left lane, said Georgia State Trooper Christopher Ashdown. A witness in a car that was passed by the SUV said it was ' traveling at a high rate of speed,' Ashdown said. The SUV then crashed into the rear of the sedan with the SUV bursting into flames following the crash, he said.
