Man befriends 28-yo on matrimonial site, dupes her of Rs 26L
Indore: An unidentified man was booked on Tuesday for allegedly defrauding a 28-year-old woman, who came in contact with the accused through a matrimonial DCP Rajesh Dandotiya said the victim reported that in Feb 2024, the woman, a resident of Vijay Nagar, received a message on her profile on from a man identifying himself as Jitendra Kumar. He introduced himself as an Indian Navy official and expressed interest in marrying a series of phone and WhatsApp conversations, the accused gained her trust without her disclosing anything to her family. Gradually, he fabricated stories about personal and family emergencies, including a false claim of suffering from blood cancer, and requested financial help for his treatment. Over time, the victim transferred a total of Rs 26,86,500 to the accused via online the woman began asking for her money back, the accused stopped responding to her messages and calls, eventually blocked her on all social media platforms. Realising she was defrauded, the woman filed a complaint with Indore Crime Branch, which promptly froze all bank accounts linked to the fraudulent transactions.A case was registered under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and efforts are underway to trace the unidentified Cyber Advisory1.
