Jefferson County group asking for safety reporting improvements in school district
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) — A grassroots community group is pressing the Jefferson County School board in how it reports cases of sexual assault and student homelessness and the urgency of it.
The group calls itself Jeffco Kids 1st and claims it has uncovered almost two dozen cases of 'grooming' and student homelessness within the past couple of years — and the lack of reporting on these issues.

According to its website, Jeffco Kids 1st is committed to preserving and safeguarding individual rights in education, through policy accountability.
A Jeffco Public Schools spokesperson, in a statement, invites Jeffco Kids 1st to provide documentation of those two dozen cases. And the organization's source, for those numbers.

'Student safety is the top priority of Jeffco Public Schools. You can read about some of our current practices and future plans related to student safety, our shared responsibility in January's Community Update or at our Safety webpage,' the district said. 'We take and will continue to take immediate action when alerted to anything or anyone unsafe in our schools. We encourage members of the community to report any safety concerns through Safe2Tell.'
