Kidnapping suspect wanted in Jefferson, St. Charles parish's
METAIRIE, La. (WGNO) — The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, in partnership with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office, are asking for the public's help in finding a kidnapping suspect. According to deputies, on May 12 they were alerted to an aggravated kidnapping and armed robbery at a Harahan business in the 5100 block of Citrus Boulevard. 2020 French Quarter shootout suspects, accused killer of ex-girlfriend among those arrested by US Marshals in June The investigation revealed the suspect approached the victim asking for a ride to which they agreed. Deputies said the suspect and a second person, who pulled out an alleged handgun got into the vehicle. They two robbed the victim of cash by forcing them to drive to a St. Charles Parish bank and withdraw money from the ATM. New Orleans man sentenced in series of Jefferson Parish robberies The suspects demanded a ride back to Jefferson Parish where the two got away. Former Grand Isle councilman convicted of child sex abuse
JEFFERSON PARISH, La. (WGNO) — A former Grand Isle councilman, ex-police officer and former member of the Grand Isle Port commission has been found guilty of child sex abuse. According to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, 81-year-old Elgene Gary Sr. abused two juveniles for several years. The allegations first came forward in 2021 when one of the victims felt safe to come forward to law enforcement following her displacement from Grand Isle due to Hurricane Ida. Woman killed in Metairie house fire The then-16-year-old victim told investigators that Gary molested her between the ages of 7 and 15. During the investigation, a 40-year-old woman also came forward in January of 2022, saying that she had been molested by Gary on one occasion between the ages of 7 and 10. On Thursday, May 29, a jury found Gary guilty as charged on three counts of sexual battery. His sentencing is scheduled for June 16. Woman killed in Metairie house fire
METAIRIE, La. (WGNO) — A woman is dead following a house fire that occurred in Metairie on Friday morning, May 30. According to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, the fire, which happened at a home in the 800 block of North Sibley Street, was reported around 8:40 a.m. with firefighters arriving shortly after. Raceland man accused of attempted murder of kids after setting 'intentional fire' On scene, there was reportedly smoke seen coming from inside the house. After extinguishing the fire, an older woman was found inside, wounded from the fire. She was pronounced dead on scene. VIDEO: 62-year-old Lafitte woman hospitalized in Marrero deputy-involved shooting: JPSO
MARRERO, La. (WGNO) — A Lafitte woman has been hospitalized after she was reportedly shot by deputies following an incident that occurred on Wednesday, May 28. According to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, the incident happened in the 7300 block of Westbank Expressway, out front of a Dollar General, around 2:15 p.m. Deputies say they performed a stop on a 2001 Isuzu SUV in a parking lot at the scene. Inside the vehicle was a 62-year-old woman from Lafitte who appeared to have a firearm. Deputies say they then backed away from the vehicle and ordered the woman to get out. Two arrested in alleged Houma car theft, chase After several minutes, the woman got out of the vehicle and allegedly pointed the weapon at deputies before being shot by several of them, proceeding to drop the weapon and fall to the ground. WARNING: The below video shows graphic content. Viewer discretion is advised. Deputies reportedly handcuffed the suspect and started on first aid. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment and will face charges, including multiple counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer, upon her release. The incident was captured on body cameras and a surveillance camera from the nearby business. Jefferson Parish deputies searching for man wanted in connection with fatal Harvey shooting
HARVEY, La. (WGNO) — Deputies with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office are searching for a man who is wanted in connection with a fatal shooting in Harvey. On April 23, the JPSO reported that an unresponsive man with a gunshot wound was found outside a home in the 1100 block of St. Michael Drive. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Folsom man, mother arrested after discovery of alleged dog fight training operation On Tuesday, May 13, JPSO officials identified 19-year-old Justin Smith, Jr. as a suspect in the investigation. Smith is wanted on charges of first-degree murder and obstruction of justice.
