Jeffrey Simmons Makes a Shift Going Into the 2025 Season

Jeffrey Simmons Makes a Shift Going Into the 2025 Season originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Jeffrey Simmons, known by many Titans fans as Big Jeff, finally made his presence known at St. Thomas Sports Park. After missing OTAs, the veteran defensive lineman was present at mandatory minicamps. Many fans had been wondering where he was, and they finally got to see him on the field with the new players added this offseason. But something else was noticeably different for Jeffrey as well. Advertisement When he stepped on the practice field, Simmons looked lighter. He has dropped 20 pounds going into the 2025 season with Tennessee. Titans defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson recognized he had lost weight, and he spoke about Jeffrey going into the offseason at minicamp when speaking to the media at minicamp: "Jeff is coming back and he's trying to be the best version of himself. He's in great shape right now." For Simmons, losing weight and being lighter could benefit him. Jeff was always quick and powerful, but with less weight, the quickness can be even better for Simmons. For a player who already gave fits to opposing offensive lines, that's even scarier to think about. Advertisement Along with potentially more explosiveness from Simmons, the lighter weight might also increase his endurance on the field. Simmons is always a player who is on the field for many of the plays. But with less weight, that could mean even more endurance and more energy on every play he is on the field. Many Titans fans questioned why Simmons was not present at voluntary OTAs, but it is evident that he has been putting in the work off the field, taking care of his body. We currently don't know what the production is going to look like, but what we do know is that Simmons is doing everything he can to be in the best possible shape to produce on the field for a team that desperately needs him at his best up front. What the PFF Numbers Say About the Titans Defense

What the PFF Numbers Say About the Titans Defense originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Numbers don't always mean everything. However, as of this offseason and before training camp begins, we have only numbers to go by outside of watching minicamps and OTAs, where players are in shorts and helmets. With that being said, the Pro Football Focus numbers are out for all teams except for the rookies on their team, and for the Titans, it tells a little bit of a story, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Advertisement The strength of the Titans, according to the numbers, is the interior of the defensive line. Interior defensive linemen Jeffrey Simmons (80.00) and T'Vondre Sweat (76.1) lead the charge there in their rankings. The Titans will need Sweat and Simmons to play to the best of their ability, and if they do, that means they stuff the run and help make teams one-dimensional. However, that is where the issue lies with the Titans, according to the PFF numbers. Tennessee Titans cornerback L'Jarius Sneed (38).Andrew Nelles / The Tennessean / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images The corners who are listed as starters, Jarvis Brownlee Jr and L'Jarius Sneed, both have a PFF score of 59.4 and 36.3. Those aren't numbers that instill confidence when you look at them at face value. Roger McCreary, the slot corner for the Titans, rates at 61.3, and backup cornerback Darrell Baker Jr ranks at 65.5, the highest among Titans cornerbacks. While these numbers tell a story, the good thing is that these numbers are just predictions. They could change at the drop of a hat with solid play. Plus, the numbers don't mean anything if players make plays, and this Titans defense is effective in keeping the other team out of the end zone. Either way, we will see during this season if the numbers are correct or if they didn't tell the entire story of what precisely this Titans defense is at its core.
