AT&T makes generous offer to older customers
Over the past few months, AT&T (T) has made significant adjustments to its pricing, which has frustrated a few of its customers. Last year in August, AT&T increased the monthly price for most of its retired unlimited wireless plans by $10 for customers with one phone line and $20 for customers with multiple lines. Don't miss the move: Subscribe to TheStreet's free daily newsletter In November, AT&T also hiked the monthly price for its fiber and internet plans by $5. Also, in April this year, AT&T even decreased its autopay discount from $10 to $5 for phone and internet customers who pay their bills with debit cards. Amid these changes, AT&T revealed in its first-quarter earnings report for 2025 that it generated a net income of $4.7 billion during the quarter, which is 19% higher than what it earned during the same quarter in 2024. It also added 324,000 new postpaid phone customers and 261,000 new fiber internet customers during the first few months of the year. Image source:As AT&T sees higher profits and welcomes thousands of new customers, the phone carrier has made a bold move to attract an older group of customers who may have been discouraged by recent price increases. The phone carrier has introduced its AT&T 55+ Plan, in which customers 55 years old and older are offered one phone line for $40 a month and two phone lines for $35 a month, with autopay and paperless billing discounts activated. The plan includes unlimited talk, text, and data in and between the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. It also offers 10GB of Hotspot Data and AT&T ActiveArmor, which offers 24/7 security to help stop spam/scam calls and texts. By listening to their needs and challenges, we recognized their growing desire for reliable and affordable connectivity - all delivered with ease," said AT&T Mass Markets Executive Vice President Jenifer Robertson in a press release. AT&T's newest plan for seniors comes at a time when one of its main competitors, T-Mobile, is offering customers who are 55 years old and older one phone line for $40 a month and two phone lines for $60 a month (with autopay enabled) through its Essentials Choice 55 plan. Verizon also offers a senior phone plan, but it is only for Florida customers. Through its 55+ Senior plan, customers can purchase one phone line for $62 a month or two phone lines for $84 a month. The move from AT&T also comes after its CEO recently issued a stern warning about the company's future phone prices, which President Donald Trump's tariff policy will impact. In April, Trump imposed a 10% baseline tariff on all countries and paused reciprocal tariffs. The pause will end in July, resulting in roughly 60 countries seeing higher tariff rates. This will likely cause U.S. consumers to see increased prices for everyday goods. "The announced tariffs could potentially increase the cost of smartphones and other devices, as well as the cost of network and technical equipment," said Stankey. "The magnitude of any increase will depend on a variety of factors, including how much of the tariffs our vendors pass on, and the impact that the tariffs have on consumer and business demand." He also warned that AT&T may have to raise prices for its devices due to Trump's tariffs. "So I think that if ultimately costs are passed to us from those that we buy handsets from, unfortunately for the customer, we're going to have to come up with some new ways for them to figure out how to digest that increase in pricing," Stankey said. AT&T just launched a new plan that may be perfect for your parents
AT&T is introducing a new affordable wireless plan to its list of offerings. This particular plan may be just what you're looking for if you're 55 or older. In a new blog post , AT&T announced the launch of a wireless plan called AT&T 55 Plus. For the price of $40 per month, customers who are 55 or older and are on this plan will get unlimited talk, text, and data in and between the US, Canada, and Mexico. This price drops down to $35 per month each if you add a second line. Additionally, you'll have access to 10GB of hotspot data and the carrier's cybersecurity suite (ActiveArmor) to stop spam and scams. This plan is also backed by the company's guarantee, which will give you a bill credit if you experience a 60-minute or longer wireless outage. On top of this offer, the company will also soon let you bundle your home internet into the deal. Jenifer Robertson, executive VP and GM of AT&T Mass Markets, states: This summer, new and existing AT&T wireless customers 55 and over will have the opportunity to bundle two wireless lines with our lightning-fast AT&T Fiber or our flexible AT&T Internet Air—all for under $100 According to the blog, bundling two lines with Internet 300 or Internet Air will cost you $99 per month. However, that's without taxes and fees included. Regardless, it sounds like a pretty decent deal that you or your parents may want to consider.

American Airlines to provide free Wi-Fi to some passengers, joining other carriers
American Airlines will offer loyalty program members free Wi-Fi beginning in January 2026. The perk, which will be offered through a partnership with AT&T, will initially only be available to airline AAdvantage loyalty program members. The airline will provide the service across two million flights annually, with about roughly 90% of its fleet, including 500 regional aircraft, equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi to make it available to passengers early next year. The move comes after rival United Airlines last year said it is introducing free Wi-Fi, provided by Starlink, for its MileagePlus members. "Our customers greatly value staying connected while in the air, whether communicating with friends, getting work done, checking in on social media or streaming their favorite subscription services," American Airlines chief customer officer Heather Garboden said in a statement Tuesday. "We've been working diligently to outfit our aircraft with best-in-class high-speed Wi-Fi and together with AT&T are proud to offer those services at no cost to our most loyal customers." In anticipation of the launch, American will conduct Wi-Fi tests on some routes to check the strength of the service, the airline said. It's already "surpassed performance expectations," according to American. Currently, Wi-FI is available on some of American's flights, but the airline charges for the service. The price starts at $10, according to its website . AT&T said consumers now want an internet connection wherever they go. "People want to be connected. Everywhere. All the time," AT&T spokesperson Jenifer Robertson said in a statement.
