Winning Wednesday: Jennifer Hughes
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Jennifer Hughes is lighting a path of discovery, encouragement, and hope for her students. Her superior teaching is why Savannah-Chatham County's 2026 Teacher of the Year. Hughes has a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the University of Colorado. Her other accomplishments include earning a Master of Arts in Special Education, and a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in culturally and linguistically diverse education She joins WSAV's Tina Tyus-Shaw to share her joy for teaching on this Winning Wednesday. 2025 SCCPSS Teacher of the Year
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — A local teacher received a big honor on Thursday. Jennifer Hughes of Southwest Elementary School received the teacher of the year award at the Hyatt Regency in Savannah. The teacher of the year goes on to serve as the leader of the Professional Senate and holds a seat alongside board members at school board meetings. The overall principal of the year is Alfred McGuire of Woodville Tompkins. Tompkins joined WSAV for a segment of Winning Wednesday after being named High School Principal of the Year.
