City of Newport News recognized as top military spouse employer
NEWPORT NEWS, Va.(WAVY)– The City of Newport News was named a 2025 Top Military Spouse Employer by
Newport News is the only municipality to receive this distinction. Officials with the city say that they are committed to supporting military spouses through inclusive hiring practices and career development opportunities.
'Being named a Top Military Spouse Employer is a true honor and a reflection of our unwavering commitment to supporting military spouses—dedicated individuals who make profound sacrifices alongside their loved ones in uniform,' said City Manager Alan K. Archer.
To help military spouses further their careers, the city has implemented targeted recruitment strategies by offering remote and hybrid work options. The city also participates in programs like the Department of Defense's Military Spouse Employment Program (MSEP), American Corporate Partners (ACP), and Hiring Our Heroes.
'As a military spouse, it's not always easy to find opportunities to build experience and grow professionally, especially when you move often,' said Jennifer Owen, Military Spouse Fellowship selectee. 'That's why this fellowship means so much to me. I'm truly excited to be part of it and to finally have the chance to use what I've learned, gain hands-on experience, and grow alongside supportive mentors.'
