(AP) — The University of New Haven has accepted an invitation to become a full member of the Northeast Conference when it begins its transition from Division II to Division I on July 1. Commissioner Noreen Morris and school president Jens Frederiksen announced Tuesday that New Haven would become the conference's 10th full member. The Chargers will become full Division I members in 2028-29. 'Making the move to Division I is a bold step, and we're honored that New Haven chose to take that step with us,' Morris said. 'From the start, it was clear that they share our values — putting academics, competitive excellence and the student-athlete experience at the forefront.' New Haven sponsors 20 sports and will be integrated into NEC schedules beginning this year with the exception of football. Football's addition to the conference schedule is still to be determined. During its transition, New Haven will immediately be able to participate in conference championships in sports that do not have automatic qualifiers for NCAA championships. The Chargers will become eligible for NCAA championship competition in 2028-29. Two other NEC members are in transition to Division I, Stonehill and Le Moyne. ___ AP college sports: The Associated Press is an independent global news organization dedicated to factual reporting. University of New Haven partners with Saudi Arabia to establish international campus branch

WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — As the first foreign entity to apply for a higher education license, the University of New Haven has partnered with Saudi Arabia to establish a campus branch in the capital city of Riyadh. The University of New Haven, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Education, its Ministry of Investment, and the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, signed a memorandum that will open a UNH branch in the fall of 2026. The branch will serve 13,000 undergraduate and graduate students, and advance Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 goals of providing a blueprint for diversifying Saudi Arabia's economy, empowering citizens, increasing private sector participation in higher education, and creating a vibrant environment for both local and international investors. The joint announcement was made at the second annual Human Capability Initiative gathering in Riyadh. The campus will feature a College of Business and Digital Innovation; a College of Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing; and a College of Arts and Applied Sciences. Undergraduate and graduate degrees will be offered alongside executive education and micro-credentials to support lifelong learning. 'The University of New Haven is proud to have been an active supporter of higher education in Saudi Arabia for over twenty years, both within the Kingdom and on our Connecticut campus,' said Jens Frederiksen, Ph.D., president of the University of New Haven.
