Pilot with area connections fatally shoots himself as police attempt arrest stemming from child sex crime

Mar. 7—A man with connections to the area died by suicide in Massachusetts, reportedly shooting himself in front of police on Friday morning at a transit station, after facing charges related to child sexual exploitation in another state. Jeremy Gudorf, 33, who lived in Xenia until 2023, had a warrant for his arrest after skipping a court date stemming from child sexual exploitation charges in Huntersville, North Carolina. On Friday morning, law enforcement approached Gudorf while he was in his vehicle that was parked near a transit station north of Boston before Gudorf pulled out a gun and "abruptly shot himself," police said. Gudorf, who was also a JetBlue pilot, had been arrested Feb. 21 at Boston Logan International Airport after U.S. Customs and Border Protection found a previous warrant for him following a standard review of a flight manifest of a Boston to Paris flight. Gudorf was detained by Massachusetts State Police before being arraigned the next day in the East Boston District Court for second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor for service, as reported by the local station WCVB. A judge granted him $10,000 bail and ordered Gudorf to appear in North Carolina on Feb. 25. Another warrant was issued for Gudorf after he failed to appear in court in North Carolina, where the alleged crime had occurred. The criminal investigation began in October 2024 after investigators with the Huntersville Police Department in North Carolina received a CyberTip from the National Center on Missing and Exploited Children. Police obtained a search warrant for Google, leading to the identification of the source of the reported images, Huntersville police said in a statement. In late 2024, Google complied with the warrant and provided the necessary records to law enforcement. Based on the evidence gathered, Huntersville police got an arrest warrant for Gudorf on felony charges of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. At the time the crime was committed, records indicated Gudorf resided in Huntersville, North Carolina. Gudorft later relocated out of state during the investigation and before police identified him as a suspect. After shooting himself Friday, Massachusetts State Police troopers attempted to render first aid to Gudorf but he was later declared dead.

Pilot arrested at Logan Airport is wanted for sexual exploitation of a minor, prosecutor says

A JetBlue pilot who had an active warrant for his arrest was nabbed Thursday night at Boston's Logan International Airport, moments before taking off on a flight to Paris, authorities said. Jeremy Gudorf, 33, of Ohio, was arraigned Friday in East Boston District Court on a fugitive from justice charge, less than 24 hours after Massachusetts State Police troopers learned he was wanted on a charge of secondary-degree sexual exploitation of a minor for service in North Carolina. 'He is a commercial pilot, the warrant is obviously out of North Carolina and he resides in the state of Ohio. So for those reasons, we ask that he be held without bail and surrender his passport,' Suffolk Assistant District Attorney Kyle Neyman. Gudorf's attorney, Tanvi Verma, argued against Neyman's request that her client be held without bail. 'He does have the financial capacity to be able to rent a car and go to North Carolina. He has assured that me he will do that. He even has the financial resources to post a small amount of bail,' Verma said of Gudorf. 'He has connections to Massachusetts, North Carolina, and Ohio. Frankly, there's no running away from this case. He's aware of that, these are serious charges.' U.S. Customs and Border Protection learned of the warrant shortly before 9 p.m. while conducting a standard review of the manifest of a Boston-to-Paris flight and requested help from troopers assigned to the airport, state police said. In a statement provided to Boston 25 News, a JetBlue spokesperson said that Gudorf has been placed on 'indefinite leave.' 'We are aware of and closely reviewing the arrest of one of our pilots upon reporting for work at Boston's Logan Airport Thursday evening due to an outstanding warrant,' the spokesperson said. 'The pilot has been placed on indefinite leave as law enforcement proceeds with the matter.' Gudorf, who was allowed to hide his face in court, was ordered held on $10,000 bail under the condition he immediately report to North Carolina by next week. 'I expect you to be able to get down there by Monday or Tuesday,' the judge presiding over Gudorf's hearing said. Gudorf is due back in Massachusetts for a status hearing on March 19, pending the clearance of his warrant. Download the FREE Boston 25 News app for breaking news alerts.
