FSU basketball falls to Virginia Tech after terrible first half

The Florida State Seminoles were unable to overcome a dreadful first half against the Virginia Tech Hokies, losing 76-66 Wednesday night in the Donald L. Tucker Center. The Seminoles are now 13-8 overall and 4-6 in ACC play. FSU had one of their worst halves of basketball to open the game, scoring just 15 points and turning the ball over six times to just one assist. They trailed 35-15 at the break and despite shooting 55.9% from the field in the second half, it was too big of a hole. Taylor Bol Bowen led FSU with 14 points and 9 rebounds and Jerry Deng added 13 points. Malique Ewin and Jamir Watkins were unable to get going, combining for 11 points and 8 rebounds. They normally combine for 33 points and 13.6 rebounds per game. The Seminoles shot 40.3% (25-62) from the field, including 32% (8-25) from behind the 3-point line. They also made 66.7% (8-12) of their free throws. FSU finished with 39 rebounds, 13 assists, 11 turnovers, 6 steals, and 4 blocks. The Hokies shot 41.4% (24-58) from the field and 38.5% (10-26) from beyond the arc. Tobi Lawal led them with 17 points and 13 rebounds. The Seminoles are set to return to action on Saturday when they host the Boston College Eagles. The game is set to start at 2 p.m. ET and will be on the ACC Network.
