UAE summons Israeli Ambassador over violations at Al-Aqsa Mosque

The UAE has summoned the Israeli ambassador to the country, expressing strong condemnation over recent provocative actions against Palestinians in the compound of Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Muslim Quarter of the Old City in Jerusalem. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the incidents a blatant violation of the sanctity of the holy city, and dangerous incitement against Muslims. It has urged the Israeli government to take full responsibility and hold those responsible accountable, including officials, and act urgently to prevent Jerusalem from being used to fuel violence and extremism. The UAE says these actions risk further escalation at a time when focus should be on ending the suffering in Gaza. The Ministry also emphasised the need to respect the custodial role of Jordan over the holy sites in line with international law and long-standing agreements, and not to compromise the authority of the Jerusalem Endowment Administration that manages the affairs of Al-Aqsa Mosque, Qubbat Al Sakhrah, and the surrounding courtyards. #WamNews — WAM English (@WAMNEWS_ENG) May 28, 2025

UAE summons Israeli envoy, condemns violations against Palestinians at Al Aqsa Mosque

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) summoned the Israeli ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, to condemn in the strongest terms the deplorable and offensive violations against the Palestinian people that took place in the courtyard of Al Aqsa Mosque and in the Muslim Quarter of the Old City. The UAE underscored that these provocative, arbitrary practices represent dangerous incitement against Muslims, and are a flagrant violation of the sanctity of the Holy City. The UAE stresses that the continued attacks by Israeli extremists and their incitement to hatred and violence constitute a systematic extremist campaign, that not only targets the Palestinian people but the entire international community, further escalating tensions at a time when efforts should be focused on ending the ongoing tragedy in the Gaza Strip. The UAE calls on the Israeli government to assume full responsibility, condemn these hostile acts, hold perpetrators accountable without exception to ministers and officials, and take urgent steps to prevent the exploitation of Jerusalem for agendas of violence, extremism and incitement. The UAE reiterates that failure to act will be seen as tacit approval that will only further deepen the cycle of hatred, racism, and instability. Furthermore, the UAE emphasised the need to respect the custodial role of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan over the holy sites in accordance with international law and historical status, and not to compromise the authority of the Jerusalem Endowment Administration that manages the affairs of Al Aqsa Mosque, Qubbat Al Sakhrah, and the surrounding courtyards. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasises the UAE's categorical rejection of all practices that violate resolutions on international legitimacy and threaten further escalation. The UAE underscored the need to respect the status quo of Al Aqsa Mosque, and the importance of protecting all holy sites in Jerusalem, which symbolise coexistence and peace. WAM

UAE condemns Israeli calls for Al-Aqsa Mosque demolition, assaults on Christians

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) condemned on Sunday Israeli calls for the demolition of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem and police assaults on Christians during the Holy Saturday celebrations. In a statement, the Foreign Ministry called for providing full protection of Islamic and Christian holy sites and halting the serious and provocative violations at Al-Aqsa Mosque. It called for respecting Jordan's custodial role over the holy sites in Jerusalem in accordance with international law and historical status, and not compromising the authority of the Jerusalem Endowment Administration that manages the affairs of Al-Aqsa Mosque. The ministry also denounced violations against Christians in Jerusalem during Holy Saturday, including obstructing access to churches and acts of physical assault, warning that these arbitrary acts would have dangerous repercussions and risk exacerbating tensions and escalation in the region. It urged the international community to intensify efforts to find a political horizon that achieves a comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution to achieve the aspirations of the Palestinian people to establish an independent sovereign state, in accordance with international law. An AI-generated video titled 'Next Year in Jerusalem' has been circulating on extremist Hebrew platforms, showing Al-Aqsa Mosque being bombed and replaced by a so-called Third Temple. Since 2003, Israeli authorities have allowed illegal settlers into the compound nearly every day. Al-Aqsa Mosque is the third-holiest site in Islam. Jews call the area the Temple Mount, believing it was the location of two ancient Jewish temples. Israel occupied East Jerusalem, where Al-Aqsa is located, during the 1967 Arab-Israeli War and unilaterally annexed the city in 1980, a move not recognized by the international community.
