Abergele clinic raises more than £2k for Conwy Mind Support

A team from Spire Abergele Clinic took the plunge on June 8 to support Conwy Mind, a local mental health charity. Seven people, including consultant orthopaedic hand surgeon, Mr Jesudason, sprinted into the bay's brisk 13.9°C waters at 10am. Jess Booker, clinical services manager at Spire Abergele Clinic, said: "We were eager to support Conwy Mind, not only because they're our neighbours, but because their work supports so many, including our colleagues, friends, and loved ones. "They are an essential part of our community, offering support when it's needed most. "With mental health challenges on the rise, we felt it was important to do our part in helping them continue their vital work." Mr Jesudason said: "As soon as I heard that my colleagues at Spire Abergele were supporting Conwy Mind, I wanted to get involved. "There remains a stigma, and a lack of understanding about mental health problems. "Mind is doing an amazing job supporting mental health, locally and nationally, and are a lifeline to many." The clinic opened in March 2024 and is part of Spire Healthcare's growing network of community clinics. The funds raised will help Conwy Mind continue their mission to improve mental health support in the community. Ian O'Reilly, head of community and events fundraising at Mind, said: "We are really grateful to the colleagues at Spire Abergele Clinic, for choosing to support Mind through partnering with us on Seal Splash 2025. "It's a difficult time, with many of us now feeling the impact of the cost of living crisis on our mental health and wellbeing, especially those of us with existing mental health problems. "One in four of us will experience a mental health problem in any given year, and it's so important that no one has to face this alone." The funds raised by Spire Abergele Clinic will add to Mind's resources, allowing them to campaign for improved services and provide information and support through their Mind Infoline, legal line and online peer support community for adults, Side by Side.
