Inmate death under investigation at the Walton County Jail
WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – An inmate was found unresponsive in his cell at the Walton County Jail early Sunday morning.
According to the Walton County Sheriff's Office, Jessie Raby was being held in confinement for Holmes County after he was arrested and charged with the murder of his mother and brother in 2024.
While in confinement, officials said that security checks were performed every 30 minutes. They added that the last security check before Raby was found unresponsive was 5:45 a.m. on Sunday.
Officials confirmed Raby was seen and observed acting normally.

When breakfast was served 15 minutes later, officials said Raby was observed on the floor on his back. Safety protocols were followed, and a team entered the cell.
A nurse stepped in, provided care, and found foreign objects blocking Rady's airway. Officials said the nurse removed what appeared to be a cloth, a sock, and a piece of toilet paper from his airway.
CPR was started, and EMS arrived to take over the care of Raby. EMS pronounced his death at 6:37 a.m.
The whole incident was captured on security cameras.
The District 1 Medical Examiner was contacted and responded. Raby's family was also notified.
This case is pending autopsy, but at this time, his death appears to be a result of his own actions.
