Surat: Suman schools see slight dip in pass percentage, rise in number of students securing A-1 grade
The Suman schools operated by the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) recorded an overall pass percentage of 95.54 in the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) Class 10 examinations this year against last year's 96.27%, reflecting a dip of 0.73 per cent. Two students, however attained a remarkable score of 98 per cent, exceeding the previous year's high of 96 per cent. At 234, There has also been an increase in the number of students securing A-1 grade, when compared with last year's 172.
On Thursday, the GSHSEB declared the Class 10 examination results. The SMC runs 23 Suman schools in Surat that impart education to students in Gujarati, Marathi, Hindi, Oriya, Urdu and English medium to students of Classes 8, 9 and 10.
According to details received from the Suman schools, 4,325 students appeared in the Class 10 board exams this year — of which 4,132 passed and 193 failed. In 2024, 3,945 had appeared for the exams, while 3,798 passed.
Of the 23 Suman schools, 11 are categorised as Gujarati medium, with a total of 1,836 students. This is followed by five Marathi-medium schools, accommodating 1,767 students; three English-medium schools with 160 students, two Hindi-medium schools with 351 students; and one school each for Oriya and Urdu medium, with 110 and 101 students, respectively. This year, the Oriya medium school achieved a 100 per cent pass rate.
This year, Jetani Madhav Bharatbhai scored a 98.66 per cent, with 100 marks each in Social Science, Science and Sanskrit, and 99 in both Basic Maths and English 99. He scored a total of 592 out of 600. Jetani, a son of a diamond trader and an embroidery unit owner, said, 'We relocated to Surat from our native place in Bhavnagar, and initially, it was challenging to adapt; however, I later acclimated to the new environment, schools, and neighbours. I aspire to pursue engineering at IIT Bombay and engage in research work.'
Vala Satish, the son of a floor tiles fitter, secured 98 per cent. He scored 100 marks in both Science and Standard Mathematics, 94 in Gujarati, 96 in Social Science, 99 in English, and 99 in Sanskrit. He obtained a total of 588 marks out of 600. Satish, a student at Suman School No. 2, located at Mohan Ni Chawl in Varachha, aspires to become an engineer.
'I scored a 95 per cent in school final examinations. After the results were declared, I found that I had secured 98 per cent. I had not expected such an outcome, and this did boost my confidence. I aspire to become an engineer, earn a substantial income, and provide a better life to my family.'
