NY Jets insider says Donovan Edwards was 'biggest winner' in team's rookie minicamp
NY Jets insider says Donovan Edwards was 'biggest winner' in team's rookie minicamp It was a shocking drop, from being on the cover of the new and rebranded EA Sports College Football 25 to not being drafted. But former Michigan football running back Donovan Edwards is making the most of his opportunity. Edwards may have gone undrafted, but he did get picked up by the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent. The Jets have something of a bottleneck at running back with Braelon Allen, Breece Hall, and Zach Evans all competing for the role, but according to Jets X Factor writer Nick Faria, Edwards shined in rookie minicamp, looking like the best of the Jets' undrafted players that they signed. If Smith was the biggest winner of the 2025 draft class, then Michigan running back Donovan Edwards was the biggest winner of the undrafted group in attendance this week for the Jets. Edwards doesn't have blazing speed, but he showed patience and good maneuverability to find gaping holes during 11-on-11 work. He is bottlenecked by his position at this point, but Edwards is going to make things very interesting moving forward in the running back room. The Jets are rebuilding and revamping under new head coach Aaron Glenn, who comes from the Detroit Lions, having been the defensive coordinator under Dan Campbell. Edwards was the biggest name of the undrafted free agents signed by the New York franchise, along with former Missouri quarterback Brady Cook -- both of whom beat Ohio State in the 2023 season (Cook beat OSU in the bowl game). Edwards' offensive backfield compatriot, Kalel Mullings, was drafted by the Tennessee Titans on the third day of the draft, and has subsequently signed.

Jets Draft Pick Labeled 'No-Brainer'
With just hours to go before the NFL Draft got underway on Thursday, the NFL media seemed undecided on how the Top 10 will truly shake out, especially as it pertained to the New York Jets, who held the No. 7 pick in the first round. The Jets had been linked to over a half dozen prospects in the first round, and the fan base has been wildly divided, just as the media has been. Advertisement But our man Nick Faria had a feeling ... Writing at Jets X Factor, Faria ranked the Jets' potential draft scenarios, and two prospects topped his list as "can't miss", Missouri's "nasty'' tackle Armand Membou and Georgia edge Jalon Walker, who has played all over the field for the Bulldogs. He wrote ... "Can't Miss: Armand Membou: I've been on the Membou train for months now. He's a pure right tackle and will solidify the offensive line moving forward for the Jets. He's the top player they need at their biggest need this offseason.'' So our guy says, "Can't miss.'' And Jets coach Aaron Glenn says, "No-brainer.'' Advertisement 'The athletic profile is off the charts, he's mean, he's nasty, he's tough,' Glenn said about Membou. 'It was a no-brainer.'' Walker went after New York's pick, landing in Atlanta after the Falcons traded to No. 15 to get him. One notable name left off the upper echelon of Faria's list: Penn State tight end Tyler Warren. Warren has been one of the media favorites for the Jets in recent weeks, but Faria has him listed in the second tier of "Strong Picks.'' He wrote ... "Then there is Warren. On the surface, he solves an immediate need for the franchise, especially with Justin Fields as the starting quarterback. Taking a tight end with the seventh overall pick is poor value for the franchise, though. It also puts increased pressure on other positions of higher value moving forward for the remainder of the draft.'' And indeed, New York didn't do Warren, who slipped to the No. 14 pick and the Indianapolis Colts. Related: Which 1 Prospect 'Must' The Jets Avoid?
