Ranchi: On the occasion of , Ranchi came together to pledge to a greener and plastic-free future. Govt offices, educational institutions, state ministers, political parties, and various organisations observed the day by planting saplings and undertakingvarious measures to promote environmental sustainability. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The events aimed to raise awareness about the importance of protecting the environment and reducing plastic pollution merging with this year's theme, 'Beat Plastic Pollution,' emphasised the need for collective action to mitigate the harmful effects of plastic waste on ecosystems and human health. CM Hemant Soren along with agriculture minister Shipli Neha Tirkey planted saplings on the premises of the forest department headquarters. The Ranchi district administration launched a tree plantation drive, as a part of the 'Ek ped maa ke naam 2.0' initiative, to plant saplings in govt schools. Students from Classes I to VIII were tasked to procure saplings as part of their homework during summer break. As schools reopened on Thursday, approximately 1.5 lakh saplings were planted by students, teachers, parents, and officials across all govt schools in the district. The Jharkhand Engineering Services Association launched a campaign, 'An Environmental War for the Protection of Water, Forest, and Land' which comprised of engineers from various public works departments in the state. They distributed around 3,000 cloth bags among citizens from May 27 to June 5, emphasising the need to adopt alternate options.
