Chhattisgarh: Maoists kill three relatives of surrendered cadres in Bijapur, villagers abducted and assaulted
RAIPUR: Maoists on Tuesday brutally murdered three villagers who were relatives of surrendered cadres, at Peddakorma village in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh. Maoists also assaulted other villagers and there were reports that over a dozen were abducted and taken to the forest.
The attack is believed to be aimed at terrorizing the local population and punishing those linked to surrendered Maoists.
According to police, Jhingu Modiyam, Soma Modiyam, and Anil Madvi, including a student were strangled to death with ropes by Maoists around 4 PM on Tuesday. Two of the victims were said to be relatives of surrendered Maoist commander Dinesh Modiyam who have up arms few months ago. Dinesh was the most dreaded Maoist in Bijapur whose surrender mattered a lot to police in terms with information gathering and Maoist strategies.
The killing was reportedly led by Maoist commander Vella and his team.
In addition to the killings, the rebels assaulted seven other villagers, leaving them injured, and abducted over a dozen locals, whose whereabouts remain unknown.
As of 8:30 PM, family members of the deceased had not reached the police, and the situation in the village remains tense. It is a serious concern to life of abducted villagers and it's unlikely that the police team will head to the remote village late in the evening as there's possibility of an ambush or IED attack.

Local police said that they were verifying the incident, and a formal investigation has been launched. The cowardly attack has once again highlighted the brutal retaliatory tactics used by Maoists against those suspected of cooperating with security forces or leaving the insurgency, officials said.
Maoists have launched this attack after June 9, when they torched an earthmover machine in Sukma's Konta region and had planted an IED that killed an Additional Superintendent of police Akash Rao Girepunje.
While authorities have been boasting of Maoists being eliminated and have to the brink, the cadres continue to mark their presence and terror among the locals.
