Motorcyclist killed in crash on Route 72 in Harwinton
A motorcyclist was killed when he struck the rear of a vehicle on Route 72 in Harwinton over the weekend, state police said.
The crash occurred Saturday around 2:07 p.m. as a 23-year-old Burlington woman, driving a 2025 Mazda CX-30, was headed south and slowed down to make a left onto East Church Road, according to Connecticut State Police.
Jhonatan Jiron, 40, of Bristol was riding a 2016 Harley-Davidson behind the Mazda when he struck the rear of the vehicle, state police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Mazda reported minor injuries and declined medical attention, according to state police.
The motorcycle and the Mazda had to be towed away, state police said.
The crash remains under investigation. Any witnesses or drivers who were in the area with dashboard camera footage have been asked to contact Trooper Trainee Nicholas Daponte at or 860-626-7900, ext. 5059.
