Sooraj Pancholi Says He's 'Proud' For Standing Up For Himself: 'Will Prove Everyone Wrong'

Last Updated: Sooraj opined that he was misunderstood during Jiah Khan's case but is proud of himself for holding his ground. Despite being embroiled in the case of Jiah Khan's suicide, Sooraj Pancholi had a promising start in Bollywood. But with three unsuccessful films and a long legal battle, Sooraj's Bollywood career came to a halt. The actor got another chance with Kesari Veer after a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Mumbai finally acquitted him of abetment charges. In an interview with SCREEN, Sooraj opined that he was misunderstood but is proud of himself for holding his ground. When asked if he feels misunderstood by people, Sooraj said, 'I agree 1000 per cent. The media talking about it without any kind of knowledge of the truth added to it. I am very calm in life now; what has to happen will happen. Not everything is in your control, I just want to do my best as an actor, brother, boyfriend, and friend. I want to give it my all. The rest is up to God and destiny." 'Even during the low phase, I was always positive because I had people around me who were a good support system. Ups and downs are a part of a person's life, not every day can be a happy day. The trolling, the news, the bashing, being pointed at, not getting work, being pushed on the side, seeing other people go much ahead of you, everything gets to you. You have to be strong for yourself, there is no way out," the actor added. Sooraj said, 'I am very proud because I stood up for myself and still chose a path in a field that will keep bashing you, but I will prove everyone wrong, I know I will. I am very proud that I didn't run away from it and fought for it; I took care of myself and overcame it with faith and hope." For the unversed, Sooraj was accused of involvement in the suicide of actor and late girlfriend Jiah Khan by her family. In 2023, a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Mumbai acquitted him of abetment charges. As for Kesari Veer: Legends of Somnath, the film provides a dramatic insight into the narrative of Hamirji Gohil, a courageous warrior who fought against the Tughlaq Empire to safeguard the Somnath Temple. Suniel Shetty stars in the film as the fearless warrior Vegda Ji, who commands the battlefield while striving to uphold 'Dharma'. Sooraj Pancholi makes a comeback to the big screen as Veer Hamirji Gohil. The film is directed by Prince Dhiman and produced by Kanu Chauhan. First Published:

Jiah Khan was depressed about THIS, says Zarina Wahab: ‘She called Suraj…'

After Jiah Khan's death, Sooraj Pancholi's life changed completely. The incident occurred on June 3, 2013, when Jiah Khan was found dead at her residence in Juhu, Mumbai. Her body was discovered in her own home, and Sooraj was accused of abetting her suicide. The legal battle lasted for nearly 10 years, and in 2023, the CBI Special Court acquitted Sooraj due to a lack of evidence. Now, in an interview, Sooraj's mother, Zarina Wahab, has spoken about the events surrounding Jiah's death and what her son went through at that time. Zarina revealed that at the time of Jiah's death, she and Sooraj were no longer together. Sooraj Pancholi's breakup with Jiah Khan Zarina Wahab told in an interview with Nayandeep Rakshit, 'I want to clear one thing that a lot of people think about Sooraj. When they (Jiah and Sooraj) were friends, Salman was launching him. Then I told him that Salman is going to launch you, so stop this! Then he went and told her, 'My parents don't want us to meet and your mother also doesn't want us to meet. So let's break up.' Then she said, 'Can I come and meet you sometime?' So he told her, 'You can come and meet me as a friend but not as a girlfriend.' The incident happened a month before their breakup. No one knows about this. In fact, she was going to South for a Telugu film around the same time in June. On the spot, she was rejected, and she was very depressed.' Zarina, who was last seen in Devara: Part 1, told that on the day of her death, Jiah had tried to contact Sooraj. She said in the same interview, 'She was so depressed that she was trying to call Sooraj. But his classes were going on because of a shooting. He couldn't take her call, and when he later saw his phone, he texted her, 'I'm free now, if you want to call me, call.' But by then, she had already passed away. And now everyone says he did this, he did that… It's so wrong. The poor girl was really sweet, but only God knows what truly happened with her.' Zarina Wahab on Aditya Pancholi's Extramarital Affairs Over the years, Aditya Pancholi's name has been linked with several women from the film industry. A few were Kangana Ranaut and Pooja Bedi. Despite the controversies, Zarina always remained calm. She talked about what people used to gossip about Aditya's relationships with other women. 'People think I am very stressed. They simply assume that 'she must be unhappy because Aditya is seeing this and that girl' nobody says, 'Yeh ladki dekh rahi hai inko'.' Jiah Khan made her Bollywood debut in 2007 with Nishabd, starring alongside Amitabh Bachchan. She later appeared in successful films like Aamir Khan's Ghajini and Akshay Kumar's Housefull, which turned out to be her last movie.

Sooraj Pancholi reveals he is still unsure who framed him in Jiah Khan suicide case: 'I was a 20-year-old boy in a relationship that didn't go well... was treated like a terrorist'

Sooraj Pancholi endured nearly a decade of media scrutiny following the Jiah Khan suicide case . Starting in his early 20s, the Kesari Veer actor found himself battling abetment charges well into his 30s. Recently, a visibly emotional Sooraj opened up about the ordeal, confessing he's still baffled over who might have framed him. He also hinted that the drama could stem from people who hold a grudge against his father, actor Aditya Pancholi . 'Treated Like a Terrorist': Sooraj Recalls Media Trial In a chat with Varinder Chawla's team, Sooraj opened up about the emotional toll of the decade-long trial in the Jiah Khan case. He recalled being just 20 when the media painted him as a villain, saying he was treated 'like a terrorist' over a failed relationship. Sooraj slammed the one-sided narrative, claiming no one looked into the other side of the story or questioned what really led to the tragedy, while he was burdened with "dirty allegations." 'Felt Cornered, Like I Was Being Bullied' Sooraj further shared that the years of constant accusations left him feeling 'cornered,' likening the experience to bullying. He speculated that the backlash might have stemmed from resentment toward his father, Aditya Pancholi. 'Maybe he made some enemies,' Sooraj said, adding that he still doesn't know who was truly behind it all. A Decade in Court: 'Sometimes Even Six Days a Week' The actor further revealed that choosing to undergo a full trial was the only path he saw to clear his name. But it came at a huge emotional cost. 'Doing a trial isn't easy, especially when the media's involved,' he said, his eyes welling up. He recalled spending years shuttling to court—sometimes twice a week, sometimes even six days straight—waiting endlessly from his 20s into his 30s. 'I can't talk about it now,' he added, visibly choked up. He also reflected on the years-long trial, saying he chose that route because it was the only way to clear his name properly. He explained that undergoing a trial meant facing every accusation head-on and responding to each claim in detail. He also pointed out that the controversial letter recovered from Jiah Khan's home—on the basis of which he was arrested—was later declared fake in court. This left him questioning why he was arrested in the first place. Now, he feels this is finally his moment to speak up, as people are willing to listen. The Jiah Khan Case: A Decade of Legal Battle Jiah Khan, a rising Bollywood actor, was found dead at her home in June 2013 by her mother, Rabia Khan . A six-page letter allegedly detailing her turbulent relationship with Sooraj Pancholi was recovered, leading to serious allegations from Rabia, who accused Sooraj and his family of mistreating Jiah. He was arrested on charges of abetment to suicide but later granted bail. After a lengthy legal battle that spanned 10 years and involved testimony from 22 witnesses, Sooraj was acquitted by the court in 2023. Salman Khan Believed In Sooraj Pancholi's Innocence In Jiah Khan Case: 'He Has Experience Of Media Trial'

Last Updated: Sooraj was accused of involvement in the suicide of actor and late girlfriend Jiah Khan by her family. He was acquitted in 2023. Despite being embroiled in the case of Jiah Khan's suicide, Sooraj Pancholi had a promising start in Bollywood. Sooraj made his debut with Athiya Shetty in Salman Khan-backed Hero. In a recent conversation with Bollywood Bubble, Sooraj revealed that Salman Khan always believed in his innocence. Sooraj said, 'Salman sir only asked me one thing, which my father also asked, 'Sooraj, have you done something wrong?' and once I said, 'No sir, I have not,' he never questioned me after that. He gave me a chance purely on trust. Also, he has the experience of going through a media trial. So maybe he was a good judge of trusting me at that point." He added, 'If people know what a trial is, they'd understand: every question must be answered, and every answer is questioned. I went through that entire process and was acquitted—not guilty—because they had no evidence against me. But nobody talked about it. The media didn't support me." Sooraj mentioned, 'Nobody supported me—because it didn't give them the 'masala' they were looking for. I think my mistake was that I didn't speak up for myself back then. A lot of people told me not to. But today, I feel that maybe if I had spoken up back then, people would've heard my side of the story, which, till today, I've never really shared. And I never will. It's done now." For the unversed, Sooraj was accused of involvement in the suicide of actor and late girlfriend Jiah Khan by her family. In 2023, a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Mumbai finally acquitted him of abetment charges. He will now be seen in Kesari Veer: Legends of Somnath with Suniel Shetty. The film provides a dramatic insight into the narrative of Hamirji Gohil, a courageous warrior who fought against the Tughlaq Empire to safeguard the Somnath Temple. First Published:

Sooraj Pancholi says Salman Khan trusted him during trial in Jiah Khan case: ‘He has experience of media trial'

Actor Sooraj Pancholi was accused of abetment to suicide in the 2013 death of his then-girlfriend and actor Jiah Khan. However, he was acquitted in the case in 2023. In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Sooraj spoke about enduring the lengthy trial, sacrificing his career, and how Salman Khan stood by him. (Also Read: Sooraj Pancholi ends silence on Jiah Khan's suicide case: I've been called murderer, criminal, abuser) Sooraj explained that he could have been acquitted 12 years ago, but chose to go through the trial so that people wouldn't think he had taken the easy way out due to privilege. He added that he underwent a 12-year legal process and won the case on his own merit. Speaking about the lack of media support, he said, "If people know what a trial is, they'd understand: every question must be answered, and every answer is questioned. I went through that entire process and was acquitted—not guilty—because they had no evidence against me. But nobody talked about it. The media didn't support me. Nobody supported me—because it didn't give them the 'masala' they were looking for. I think my mistake was that I didn't speak up for myself back then. A lot of people told me not to. But today, I feel that maybe if I had spoken up back then, people would've heard my side of the story, which, till today, I've never really shared. And I never will. It's done now.' He further spoke about Salman's unwavering support throughout the ordeal, saying, "Salman sir only asked me one thing, which my father also asked, 'Sooraj, have you done something wrong?' and once I said, 'No sir, I have not,' he never questioned me after that. He gave me a chance purely on trust. Also, he has the experience of going through a media trial. So maybe he was a good judge of trusting me at that point.' For the unversed, Sooraj made his Bollywood debut with the Salman-backed film Hero, which also starred Suniel Shetty's daughter Athiya Shetty in the lead role. Actor Jiah Khan was found dead at her residence in Mumbai on 3 June 2013. Based on a letter seized on 10 June 2013, purportedly written by Jiah, the Mumbai Police booked Sooraj under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) and arrested him. Jiah's mother, Rabia, alleged that her daughter had been murdered and claimed she was in an abusive relationship with Sooraj. In April 2023, a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Mumbai acquitted Sooraj in the case. Sooraj is set to make his comeback with Kesari Veer, which narrates the tale of Hamirji Gohil—a brave warrior who fought against the Tughlaq Empire to protect the Somnath Temple and the Hindu faith. Directed by Prince Dhiman, the film also stars Suniel Shetty, Vivek Oberoi, and Barkha Bisht, among others. It is scheduled for release in cinemas on 23 May.
