‘China, Kuwait cultural ties have seen major progress'

KUWAIT CITY, May 22: Chinese Ambassador to Kuwait Zhang Jianwei has affirmed that culture opens doors between peoples, and that humanitarian exchange between China and Kuwait has witnessed remarkable development in recent years. Jianwei made the statement during the opening of the 'Experience Chinese Intangible Heritage' event titled, 'Tea: A Cause of Harmony - Indigo Dyeing and the Art of Tea Preparation,' at the Chinese Cultural Center which, he stressed, plays a crucial role in promoting mutual understanding and cultural exchange. Present at the event were Sheikha Al-Anoud Ibrahim Al-Sabah, who represented the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL), along with numerous Chinese culture enthusiasts and Chinese community members. The Ambassador expressed gratitude to NCCAL and praised Sheikha Al-Anoud for supporting Chinese culture and strengthening ties between the two nations. He stated that cultural exchanges enrich civilizations and mutual learning leads to prosperity, while confirming the shared appreciation for traditions and the pursuit of a good life in both Chinese and Kuwaiti cultures. He said indigo dyeing is an ancient art reflecting the Chinese pursuit of beauty, and described Chinese tea as a cultural symbol embodying peace, tolerance, and intercultural coexistence. He also pointed out the strengthened cultural cooperation between China and Kuwait within the framework of President Xi Jinping's Global Civilization Initiative, affirming the role of the Chinese Embassy in organizing activities to deepen mutual understanding. He stated that the center, the first in the Gulf region, is a vital resource for learning the Chinese language, as well as traditional and contemporary Chinese culture. He highlighted the successful series of courses and events organized by the center, reflecting the growing Kuwaiti interest in Chinese culture. On a personal note, he announced his imminent departure from Kuwait; indicating it is an honor to oversee the establishment of the center and participate in its activities. He shared his fond memories of Kuwait and his wish for the center's continued progress, along with his anticipation of the unwavering support of NCCAL. Meanwhile, acting Assistant Secretary General for the Islamic Antiquities Sector Dr. Sheikha Al-Anoud Al-Sabah said NCCAL is keen on building cultural bridges, especially during Kuwait's year as the Capital of Arab Culture and Media. In a bilingual speech, she highlighted the strong cultural, media and educational cooperation between Kuwait and China since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1971. She stated that several agreements and memoranda of understanding led to constructive communication and a roadmap for collaboration. She cited the first cultural agreement in 1982, which laid the groundwork for 43 years of exchanges and activities. Director of the center Liu Jinhong explained that the event aimed to introduce Chinese heritage through live demonstrations of traditional indigo dyeing and Chinese tea making by renowned artists. He confirmed that the center is witnessing the growing interest among the Kuwaiti public, as many have been inquiring about Chinese language courses and cultural activities. He pointed out that the friendly relations between China and Kuwait have been going on for more than 60 years, hoping for more Kuwaiti visits to China and the continued flourishing of their friendship.

KUWAIT CITY, March 18: Chinese Ambassador to Kuwait Zhang Jianwei has affirmed that the framework agreement for technical arrangements signed by the governments of Kuwait and China on Monday, which includes all the technical details for cooperation in the field of renewable energy, is good news and very important for strengthening cooperation in the field of renewable energy between the two countries. Jianwei made this statement during a Ghabqa he hosted in honor of the members of the Chinese Muslim community in Kuwait, with several citizens in attendance. He revealed the agreement was signed during the ceremony held in Beijing on the Kuwaiti side by Undersecretary of the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy Adel Al-Zamel and Samih Jawhar Hayat, and on the Chinese side by Deputy Director of the National Energy Administration Ren Jingdong. He said it is also an important step towards implementing the seven agreements between the governments of China and Kuwait, which were concluded on the sidelines of the visit of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al- Sabah in September 2023, and in light of the lofty directives of the country's top political leadership to accelerate the implementation of major development projects with Beijing. He added this framework agreement is the second of its kind, following the signing of an agreement last February for the Mubarak Port project. 'The coming period will witness an acceleration of work between our two countries to implement agreements in the fields of sanitation and housing. A new Chinese company will soon arrive in Kuwait to consult with officials on strengthening cooperation in the sanitation sector. A Kuwaiti delegation will also travel to China to explore cooperation in the field of free trade. Through this close cooperation, we can witness more business and collaboration between us. This type of work will protect the common interests of our two countries,' he elaborated. He affirmed that his country has entered an important phase of modernization and development, providing economic opportunities for other countries, including Kuwait. 'China will become more open and attractive to foreign investment. We welcome investments from Kuwait. We welcome more Kuwaiti friends for tourism and trade. I believe these opportunities will strengthen cooperation between us and protect the common interests of our peoples. We are optimistic about the future of this cooperation, especially under the patronage and leadership of Chinese President Xi Jinping and His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad,' he added. He disclosed that the number of Chinese companies operating in Kuwait exceeds 60, and that they have been here since the late 1970s. 'They have contributed significantly to the development of the Kuwaiti economy and the improvement of the living standards of the Kuwaiti people, given their capabilities, experience and good reputation. China is the second country to invest in Kuwait. Chinese companies are interested in Kuwaitizing labor and jobs, and have brought many Kuwaitis to the country,' he asserted. He stated that 'the coming period will witness the presence of many Chinese delegations at various high levels in Kuwait. We will also witness the presence of Kuwaiti delegations in Beijing shortly.'

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 27: The Chinese Ambassador to Kuwait Zhang Jianwei praised the cooperation and interest of the Kuwaiti government, leadership, and people in enhancing relations with China. In a statement to reporters on the sidelines of the Myanmar Embassy's celebration of the 77th anniversary of Independence Day, Ambassador Jianwei said, 'We thank the Kuwaiti government, leadership, and people for their cooperation with our country. We hope to strengthen consultation and coordination with the Kuwaiti side and relevant authorities to push for implementing the first phase of projects, especially those related to the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port, renewable energy, and others. The Chinese side is fully prepared to implement these projects.' Regarding the completion timeline for the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port project, he stated, 'All projects require different stages for implementation. As for Mubarak Port, this involves consultation with the Kuwaiti side on the duration of the project, but work is proceeding smoothly.' Ambassador Jianwei highlighted the strong desire of both sides to strengthen relations, affirming that exchanges of visits between the two countries are ongoing. When asked about potential visits by Chinese officials to Kuwait, he stated, 'We will certainly enhance exchanges between us this year.' Ambassador Jianwei emphasized that work on ongoing projects is progressing smoothly. Meanwhile, he said the embassy will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the historic visit of the late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad to Beijing on February 12, as it was a visit that played a major role in strengthening ties, adding, 'This occasion will serve as a reminder of the historic visits of Kuwaiti princes to China'. Ambassador Jianwei affirmed that official exchanges between the two countries are a tradition. Regarding the delivery of final designs, he confirmed that work is proceeding smoothly.
