He confirmed the news in a brief tweet, which read: "Diagnosed this week with colon cancer.
"Surgery being scheduled in the next week or two. I appreciate your concern and support."
Fans were shocked and devastated by the announcement, with one saying: "Oh God, sorry to hear that JR. Wish you all the best."
Another added: "Thinking of you JR. Get well soon."
