Rochester community encouraged to celebrate 'Night to Unite' with local law enforcement

May 28—ROCHESTER — The Olmsted County Sheriff's and the Rochester Police Department are celebrating Night to Unite on Aug. 5 to promote police-community partnerships. According to a release, neighbors are encouraged to organize gatherings and register them online. "Building a safer community starts with knowing your neighbors," Rochester Police Chief Jim Franklin said in the release. "Night to Unite is a great opportunity to come together and strengthen our connections in support of a safer Rochester." Law enforcement officers from RPD and OCSO will visit as many neighborhood celebrations as possible, according to a release. "The goals of Night to Unite and our Sheriff's Office mission statement are intertwined, to promote and protect the well-being, safety, and security of all people in our community," Sheriff Kevin Torgerson wrote in the release. "We look forward to joining with our friends and neighbors again this year to work towards those common goals here in Olmsted County. We will see you in your neighborhood on August 5!"

Rochester Police Department announces Safe City Nights dates and locations

Apr. 8—ROCHESTER — The Rochester Police Department has announced the 2025 dates and locations of Safe City Nights, a series of community engagement events across the City of Rochester where all are welcome. This summer's Safe City Nights will include four gatherings. Each event will include free food and activities with police officers, firefighters and other public safety and city partners. Dates & locations * June 10, 6-8 p.m. at Gibbs Elementary (5525 56th St. NW) * July 8, 6-8 p.m. at Jefferson Elementary (1201 10th Ave. NE) * July 22, 6-8 p.m. at Bishop Elementary (406 36th Ave. NW) * August 12, 6-8 p.m. at Franklin Elementary (1801 9th Ave. SE) RPD first launched Safe City Nights in 2019 to build positive connections between police and community members. "We really value the opportunity to engage with people of all ages throughout the city. Relationship-building initiatives like Safe City Nights are a key part of community policing, which focuses on working collaboratively to solve problems and enhance public safety," shared Police Chief Jim Franklin in a press release. Several public safety and city partners are participating in Safe City Nights, including Rochester Fire Department, Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service, Olmsted County Sheriff's Office, Minnesota State Patrol, Rochester Public Utilities, Public Works, Library and Parks and Recreation.
