Renowned ‘90s rock band releases first new music in 25 years

One of the most influential independent bands of the 1990s has put out new music for the first time in more than 25 years. Pavement released the soundtrack for the band's upcoming documentary on Friday, May 30, including a new song that is a cover of Jim Pepper's 'Witchitai-To.' The record marks Pavement's first new material since the band's 1999 EP, 'Major Leagues.' News of the track first surfaced when Scott Kannberg said 'there will be a new Pavement song on the soundtrack' during an interview on the 'Kreative Kontrol' podcast in December 2024. 'Pavements,' which premiered at the 81st Venice International Film Festival on Sept. 4, 2024, is a feature film chronicling the band's rise to fame in the '90s. The motion picture blends behind-the-scenes footage from Pavement's performances coupled with actor portrayals. It stars Joe Keery, of 'Stranger Things,' as frontman Stephen Malkmus and Jason Schwartzman as the band's manager. The film was released in select theaters across the U.S. on May 2 and will have a wide release on Friday, June 6. Pavement is regarded as 'perhaps the defining American indie rock band of the 1990s,' according to AllMusic. The group formed in Stockton, California, in 1989. Pavement has consisted of members Kannberg, Malkmus, Steve West and Bob Nastanovich for most of the band's career. Pavement released its debut album 'Slanted and Enchanted' in 1992 and briefly attracted mainstream attention with the 1994 single 'Cut Your Hair.' The band released four more albums before going on a hiatus by 2000. Pavement embarked on a reunion tour in 2010, followed by another international tour from 2022 to 2024. Incumbents mostly sitting out Central Bucks, Pennridge primary races. Who's running?

None of the current Central Bucks and Pennridge school board members with terms ending this year are running for re-election, according to an unofficial candidate list released Monday by the Bucks County Board of Elections. The list released earlier this week comes days after a filing deadline for candidates in the May 20 primary to file nomination peitions as they run for their respective party's nominations for the Nov. 4 municipal election. While Pennsylvania is a closed primary state where indepedents have no say in the Democratic or Republican nominations in May for a number of local races, it's not uncommon for candidates in school board and judge positions to 'cross file' for both parties. The four sitting members elected to Pennridge's board in 2021 and Jim Pepper, the only remaining Central Bucks board member elected that same year, have not filed nomination petitions as of the March 11 deadline ahead of the May 20 primary. In Central Bucks, board member Daniel Kimicata of Chalfont is the only incumbent running. He was appointed in September to replace former board member Dr. Mariam Mahmud after she moved out of the region she was elected to represent four years ago. Kimicata is facing off against Elizabeth 'Betty' Santoro of Warrington, Katrina O. Filiatrault of New Britain Township and Roman Szewczuk of Warrington for one of two four-year seats in Central Bucks Region 3. All candidates in that race have filed for both the Republican and Democratic ballots. What to know ahead of the primary: The 2025 PA primary is May 20: What to know about this year's elections in Bucks County. Pennridge and Central Bucks became national 'battleground' races tracked by Ballotpedia in 2023 after members of the previous board put both districts on the frontlines of a culture war regarding book bans, pride flags and transgender athletes. Democrats swept races in both districts in 2023, this year's election probably won't rise to the same levels of prominence this year because both nine-member boards have a Democratic majority and only four seats are up for grabs in November. In addition to Central Bucks voters choosing from a slate of almost entirely new candidates, this is also the first year that the school district is implementing its new voting regions. The district was previously divided into nine regions, one for every seat on the board. But a new redistricting plan following the 2020 census divided Central Bucks into three evenly split regions. Region 1, which consists of Plumstead, most of Buckingham and Doylestown Borough and Doylestown Township's 6th Precinct, does not have any seats up in this year's election. Two Warwick residents, Amanda O'Connor and Andrew Miller, have cross-filed in the race for one four-year term in Central Bucks Region 2. Region 2 includes all of Warwick and New Britain Borough, the rest of Doylestown Township, the two precincts that make up Doylestown Borough's 3rd Ward, the voting precinct in New Britain Township East and the Buckingham Township Lower 1 precinct. Region 3 includes all of Warrington and Chalfont and the remaining precincts of New Britain Township. In addition to the two previously mentioned four-year terms, Brenda Bagonis of Warrington, and David Comalli of Chalfont have cross-filed for the race to fill one two-year term in Region 3. Despite some local efforts to regionalize Pennridge, voters in Bedminster, Dublin, East Rockhill, Hilltown, Perkasie, Sellersville, Silverdale and West Rockhill are to vote for up to four candidates to represent the entire district this year. Nine candidates have thrown their hats into the ring, most of them appearing to make their first attempt to fill the four four-year terms. Hilltown residents Carly Taylor, Dan Bebernitz and Daniel P. Mainieri, III, plus Nathaniel Leffever, of Dublin and Thomas Trauger of East Rockhill, have cross-filed. Brian McMullen and Jim York, of East Rockhill, and Jonathan Russell and Michael Bongiovanni, of Hilltown, are running only on the Republican ticket. York and Russell both previously ran for the school board in 2023. There are dozens more candidates running for the Republican and Democratic nominations for school boards across Bucks County, with each race having four seats up for election. The current list of candidates for the May 20 primary isn't final. Voters can select write-in nominations as well. The deadline for candidates to file a withdrawal from a race is March 26. The last day to register to vote in the primary is May 5. Third-party candidates are to have until Aug. 1 to file nomination papers to appear on the Nov. 4 ballot, and voters can write-in. The searchable table below has a full list of candidates for school board races from the county's election offices, as well as additional information from a review of each candidate's nomination petition and voter registration data. The table includes each candidate's name, election, listed occupation, the municipality they live in based on voter registration, the party nomination they're seeking and the party they're currently registered for as of Feb. 17.
