‘Becoming Led Zeppelin' Documentary Arrives On Netflix This Week
"Becoming Led Zeppelin" partial poster image featuring Robert Plant, John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and ... More John Bonham. Becoming Led Zeppelin — a rock documentary featuring Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and John Bonham — debuts on Netflix this week. Directed by Bernard MacMahon and Allison McGourty, Becoming Led Zeppelin debuted on IMAX screens on Feb. 7 and expanded to regular theaters on Feb. 14 before pivoting to digital streaming on April 4. The official summary from the film's studio Sony Pictures Classics reads, 'Becoming Led Zeppelin explores the origins of this iconic group and their meteoric rise in just one year against all the odds.' Led Zeppelin, featuring Plant on lead vocals, Page on guitar, Jones on bass and Bonham on drums, formed in 1968 and disbanded in 1980 following the tragic death of Bonham at age 32. During Led Zeppelin's 12-year run, the band released eight albums of original material and in 1982, issued a final album, Coda, which consisted of unreleased rejected tracks, outtakes and live recordings. The band released several classic songs from 1968-1980, including 'Black Dog,' 'Immigrant Song,' 'Rock and Roll,' 'Whole Lotta Love,' 'Stairway to Heaven,' 'The Ocean,' 'In the Evening,' 'Kashmir,' 'Ramble On' and 'Houses of the Holy.' According to Netflix, Becoming Led Zeppelin will arrive on the streaming service on Saturday, June 7. For viewers who don't subscribe to the platform, Netflix offers an ad-based package for $7.99 per month for two supported devices, an ad-free package for $17.99 per month for two supported devices and an ad-free package for $24.99 for four supported devices with 4K Ultra HD programming. Becoming Led Zeppelin marks the first time a documentary about the classic rock group has been authorized by the band. As such, Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones granted all-new interviews to directors Bernard MacMahon and Allison McGourty, while the filmmakers tracked down never-before-heard and seen footage featuring John Bonham. During an interview with Hey U Guys alongside MacMahon and McGourtry,' Page explained why he finally said yes to a documentary about the group. 'All the documentaries that I'd seen up to this up to this one were really, really very, very lightweight,' Page told HeyUGuys. 'They didn't actually give any sort of perspective on what was actually happening with the music and why the music was what it was, why there was improvisation every night and that made us very different to everybody else. No, they missed all of it.' Page added that prior attempts by people attempting to document the career of Led Zeppelin 'could put in the figures of how many albums we sold, but it's like, 'Yeah, but you're forgetting why those albums are selling.'' 'So, I didn't have very much uh patience with those sort of things,' Page explained to HeyUGuys. 'I had a lot of patience with Bernard and Allison when they were when they were presenting the idea of what they wanted to do because it was so in line with the way that I thought about it, too … I'm so thrilled to be here now that they manifested exactly what they said they would do.' Becoming Led Zeppelin begins streaming on Saturday, June 7, on Netflix.

Prior to Becoming Led Zeppelin, directors Bernard MacMahon and Allison McGourty made a three-part 2017 documentary series, American Epic, which examined the origins of roots music in the U.S. in the 1920s. After that, MacMahon and McGourty set their sites on what would eventually become Becoming Led Zeppelin. MacMahon told Interview Magazine in a February interview that he was inspired by Led Zeppelin after reading a paperback book about the band's early years when he was 12 years old. "It was about the early period of the group and how these four guys from different parts of Britain came together,' MacMahon recalled for Interview. 'They're struggling to find their way in the music world, but they're working incredibly hard. Two from the Midlands who can't get into the snobby London music scene and two in the London scene that are session musicians and on massive records. 'They get together and recognize there's something special because of all the stuff they've individually done,' MacMahon added. 'Jimmy Page says, 'We're going to not do anything that the music industry tells us to do. We're not going to do any singles, we're not going to do TV, we're not going to do interviews. We're going to pay for the album ourselves and then we're going to own the album.'' All Back to Vinyl Jimmy Page & The Black Crowes – Live At The Greek
Jimmy Page & The Black Crowes – Live at the Greek I once asked Black Crowes guitarist Rich Robinson what it was like to work with Jimmy Page from one of the greatest bands of all time, Led Zeppelin. 'I was on cloud nine', came the reply'. He's the architect'. While the band's frontman, Robert Plant, continues to tour, it's been a while since we've seen Page get behind a Les Paul. You can almost hear his sweat hit the ground in this thrilling dirt-behind-the-fingernails performance. The Brothers Robinson were match fit and ready for these two shows recorded on October 18th/19th at the Greek Theatre in 1999. The original album was released in February 2000, when the Crowes were arguably at their peak after becoming one of the best live rock acts of the 90s. 25 years on, the sound is better than ever, Jimmy Page suggests: 'The new mixes capture the collaboration of those historic encounters and provide the full explosive passion and exciting energy of those alchemical moments.' A typical example is during a potent Custard Pie, a real highlight with its stop/start funky riff and the late Eddie Harsch on keys who gets stuck in. Page's idiosyncratic solo has never sounded quite like this. Chris Robinson's soulful harmonica plays over a sonically tuned in Page and Rich Robinson, who delve into a melodious sonic soup of licks and riffs. The same bubbling energy filters into Sick Again, 'How you doin', how you doin'' Chris Robinson asks the audience before Page and his brother riff on the Crowes' favourite No Speak No Slave. Gorman's drumming takes everything to another level. Steven Tyler Chris Robinson Jimmy Page and Rich Robinson backstage at London Eventim Apollo 15th May 2024 Photographer Credit Ross Halfin The band knows exactly when to pull back, breathe and let Page go during a bright performance of Your Time Is Gonna Come with its electric country riffs. It's also a joy to hear Page's distinctive tones during She Talks To Angels, he brings another dimension to an already classic song. The flexibility between Audley Freed, Rich Robinson and Page continues during a memorable version of The Wanton Song. The material from Physical Graffiti, such as this and Ten Years Gone, lends itself well to the Crowes; not many could interpret some of Zeppelin's finest work with the same colour and tone. Page with his dark rumbling riffs and brighter moments might suggest the right amount of light and shade. The 36-track anniversary album was produced, mixed, and remastered by Kevin Shirley and includes the addition of unreleased cuts such as the Crowes' timeless hit Remedy from 1992. The swing and rock groove is a boon to Eddie Harsh, who is dominant on keys. The band's instincts are spot on during the triple Les Paul assault of Whole Lotta Love, Chris Robinson's soulful, unyielding vocal delivers the goods, and there are not many who could take on one of Robert Plant's finest moments and do it justice. A much-needed reminder of how vital rock n' roll collaborations can be when done as well as this. Like this: Like Related

Led Zeppelin's Mid Wales cottage could become micro nation
The owner of a Mid Wales cottage that Led Zeppelin once called home explained the motive behind his decision to turn it into a micro-nation. After declaring independence with the intention of becoming a micro-nation, the owner of Bron-Yr-Aur, an 18th century cottage on the outskirts of Machynlleth. The cottage is famous among music fans around the world for its association with the rock band Led Zeppelin. Having stayed there for a period of time in 1970, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant wrote several songs at the cottage, some of which were directly inspired by the location. Led Zeppelin used the name of the house in the title of two songs, Bron-Y-Aur Stomp and Bron-Yr-Aur. Songs that appeared on the bands third and fourth studio albums, as well as later albums Houses of the Holy and Physical Graffiti, can be traced back to the cottage. Earlier this year, the cottage's current owner Scott Roe announced that he wanted to establish the area as an independent micro-nation, creating a flag, constitution and coat of arms. He added that he wants the initiative to focus on community and international projects, with the aim of having the world's highest foreign aid budget as a proportion of GDP. He said: 'The history of micro-nations either traverses either people in their bedrooms saying they have their own kingdom or others that have triggered an actual military response. Obviously we don't want to fall into either of those categories. 'The idea didn't come about overnight. It's been building for decades. In owning this house I've been in touch with a creative collective around the world and run various big art projects, which slowly brought the concept into being. 'We've had an overwhelming response from all quarters. Even the Welsh Government response was positive. It seems to be resonating with people, the idea of building a community in a different way. 'It's this piece of music history that shines a spotlight on Welsh history. So many people around the world are not aware that it's a separate country with its own culture, history and language. We've welcomed citizens who have said they might even learn Welsh as a result of joining. 'It was reported somewhere that we had 500 citizens, which honestly came as a surprise to us because we didn't count that many. But since that number is out there we've decided to make it a goal of sorts. 'It's a bit tongue in cheek but we also genuinely believe we can help both locally and internationally with a mini version of how to create a better model. A model based on well-being rather than pounds or dollars. It's as much of a social enterprise as anything else.'

Led Zeppelin Reaches A Special Milestone For The First Time
Led Zeppelin's Four Symbols reenters the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart at No. 27, marking its ... More six hundredth week on the tally, a new record for the band. Led Zeppelin 1975 Jimmy Page Earls Court (Photo by Chris Walter/WireImage) Led Zeppelin is experiencing a modest but notable resurgence on the charts in the United Kingdom at the moment. The group's comeback would be welcome and notable for nearly any rock outfit, let alone one that's been as popular as the musicians have and for as long. Led Zeppelin doesn't have new work out, either. These returns are with decades-old material, which only fell away recently, and which loves to bounce back to the tallies with regularity. Last week was particularly eventful on the charts in the United Kingdom, thanks in part to Record Store Day releases. As many of those special titles fade, classics resurface — and Led Zeppelin is benefiting from that shift. The legendary rock outfit sees both a bestselling album and one of its most famous songs return to the rankings in the U.K., with the full collection even reaching a significant milestone. The band's untitled album — commonly referred to as Led Zeppelin IV, but officially listed by the Official Charts Company as Four Symbols — returns to the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart this week. The set is a top 40 bestseller again as it reenters at No. 27. Four Symbols isn't just back, though. It celebrates a major milestone as it finds space on the genre-specific list once more. The collection has now spent 600 weeks on this specific tally, and this frame marks the first time a Led Zeppelin title has hit the 600-week milestone on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart. In fact, no other release in Led Zeppelin's discography has come close to that huge number. The next longest-running success from the group on the Official Rock & Metal Albums list is Mothership, with 380 frames on the roster. The band's self-titled debut has logged 269 weeks, while its follow-up, Led Zeppelin II, follows closely behind with 254 frames. As Four Symbols returns, so too does the most celebrated song from its tracklist. 'Stairway to Heaven' is back on the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart. Even though it wasn't officially released as a single from the project, the tune has now spent 628 weeks on the ranking. It reappears at No. 40 this frame, the lowest spot on the list, but has previously soared as high as No. 3. Led Zeppelin released the Four Symbols in 1971. While several cuts from the effort, including 'Black Dog,' 'Rock and Roll,' and 'Going to California,' were promoted as singles, it was 'Stairway to Heaven' that stole the show, and it's that track continues to fuel the album's performance on the charts to this day.
