Oman-India economic ties strengthened through investment dialogue

NEW DELHI: A high-level delegation from the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ) visited India to enhance economic cooperation and explore investment opportunities between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of India. Led by Eng Ahmed bin Hassan al Dheeb, Deputy Chairman of the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones, the delegation engaged with key Indian industries and institutions to foster bilateral trade and knowledge exchange. During their visit, the delegation toured major industrial hubs, including Jindal Iron and Steel Group's facilities in Angul, where they observed advanced steel production processes. They also visited OP Jindal International University to explore academic programmes, research centres and industry collaborations that could support Oman's human capital development. As part of the visit, OPAZ co-organised a business forum with the Embassy of Oman in India, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. The event attracted more than 80 Indian companies from sectors such as pharmaceuticals, food, medical products and energy. Speaking at the forum, Al Dheeb emphasised India's strategic role as a key investment partner for Oman. 'Special economic zones and free zones are critical in driving investment and strengthening economic ties between our nations,' he stated. 'This visit is an opportunity to showcase Oman's investment potential and attract new business partnerships.' The Omani delegation presented investment opportunities across OPAZ-managed zones, highlighting incentives available to foreign investors. Additionally, the Omani House of Law Office provided an overview of Oman's legal and regulatory framework for investors. Al Dheeb reiterated the importance of leveraging Oman's special economic zones to attract Indian investments. 'By fostering cross-border collaboration, we can enhance industrial growth and create new economic opportunities for both nations,' he added. Muscat: The Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones organised a visit to the Republic of India with the aim of enhancing economic cooperation between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of India in the field of economic, free and industrial zones, and discussing opportunities for attracting investments and exchanging expertise and experiences between the two friendly countries. The delegation of the Authority, headed by His Excellency Eng. Ahmed bin Hassan Al-Dheeb, Vice Chairman of the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones, visited a number of Indian industrial and economic companies and institutions, such as the projects of the Jindal Iron and Steel Group in the Indian region of Angul. They learned about the operational processes in the iron factory, visited the O.P. Jindal International University, and learned about the academic programs, research centers, educational museum, and service and academic facilities. Coinciding with the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two friendly countries by the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in the Republic of India, the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman, in cooperation with the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones, organised a business forum with the attendance of more than 80 Indian companies operating in various fields such as pharmaceuticals, food, medical products and the energy sector. The Authority's delegation presented a working paper that reviewed investment opportunities in the areas supervised by the Authority, the incentives provided to investors and the most prominent targeted sectors in the areas. The Omani House of Law Office also presented an introductory working paper on the legislation and regulations in force in the Sultanate of Oman. His Excellency Eng. Ahmed bin Hassan Al-Dheeb, Vice Chairman of the Authority, stressed the importance of bilateral relations between the two countries, as the Republic of India is one of the most prominent investment partners of the Sultanate of Oman. His Excellency also stressed the role of special economic zones, free zones and industrial cities in attracting investments and enhancing economic cooperation between the two countries, and the importance of exploring investment opportunities in the Sultanate of Oman.
