THE paraglider may have miraculously survived the terrifying ordeal, but he now faces an investigation from the authorities. It is understood that he holds a valid paragliding licence, but Jiupai News reports that failed to file the requisite flight plan for this trip. The local aviation sports regulations say that such activities need approval from air traffic controllers - and that paragliders cannot alter their planned routes without authorisation. Paragliding activities are also prohibited under adverse weather conditions. Anyone found to have breached the rules faces sanctions that can range from warning and fines to criminal charges. The incident is now being investigated by regulatory authorities. A source told Jiupai News that he had failed to file the necessary flight plan - including getting airspace clearance for the launch site. Chinese national aviation sports regulations state that aerial activities need prior airspace approval from air traffic control. Paragliding activities have to be carried out according to a pre-arranged plan, and trips are prohibited under adverse weather conditions. Changing flight plans without authorisation is also not allowed. Penalties for those found in breach of the rules range from warning and fines to criminal charges, local media reports.

Boss shares over ₹10 crore trading gains with more than 2000 staff, sparks envy
A supermarket chain owner in China has grabbed attention for distributing profits from his gold futures investments among all his employees, including cooks and cleaners, sparking admiration and envy online, reported the South China Morning Post. Liu Mingjun, a former musician who became an entrepreneur in 2021, is the founder of the Ronghe 1+1 Fresh Supermarket chain in Shanxi province, northern China. Since its inception, the business has grown to include 33 outlets in Shanxi and has recently expanded into neighbouring Henan province. The company currently employs 2,040 people. According to South China Morning Post, Liu revealed in an interview with Jiupai News on April 26 that he had distributed 9.13 million yuan (approximately ₹10.5 crore) in profits from a one-year gold futures investment among his staff. Also read: Metallica fans 'cause' small earthquake at Virginia Tech with synchronised jumping: 'Yeah, we all did that' 'I specialise in futures trading and have been doing so for 20 years, but this is the first time I have made this much,' he said. Confirming the news, a shop manager said that every staff member, even those in basic roles like cooking and cleaning, received a share of the bonus. The amount varied depending on how long they had worked at the company. Employees with over two years of service were given 10,000 yuan (around ₹1.15 lakh), while those with one to two years of tenure received 2,000 yuan (about ₹23,000) along with two days of paid leave. Staff who had joined less than a year ago got 1,000 yuan (roughly ₹11,500) and the same amount of leave. Videos that have been widely shared on Chinese social media show bundles of cash placed on a table as staff lined up, visibly excited, to receive their share, as per South China Morning Post. 'When I first heard about this, I thought our boss was drunk,' one employee was quoted saying. Liu clarified that his gesture wasn't meant to push employees to work harder. Rather, it was a personal dream he had carried for years. 'If one day I am rich, I will share it with everyone. It comes from the heart and is not just an empty promise,' he said. He added, 'I will do my best to make sure my employees feel happy,' also stating, 'This profit distribution will definitely not be the last time.' Looking ahead, Liu shared that he has plans to open more outlets in Henan province. 'We will wait patiently to reap the rewards and share the profits slowly. After all, more than 2,000 families depend on us, so we must ensure the welfare of our employees,' he said. The story has since drawn widespread praise across social media platforms. Many users expressed their admiration for Liu, calling him a dream employer. ‘Wonderful fate': China woman with 95% burns reveals she and fiance share same birthday
A woman in China who suffered horrific burns in a kitchen fire when she was young has revealed that she and her fiance share the same birthday. - Photo: SCMP composite/Douyin SHANGHAI: A young woman in eastern China who suffered 95 per cent burns in an accident many years ago has revealed that she and her fiancé were born on the same day. 'Karma is so magic. We were born on the same day of the same month of the same year,' said the 25-year-old blogger Dai Wanyue, along with her fiancé, displaying their own identity cards in front of a camera online. 'We are engaged. Please give us your blessings,' she said. Dai is a home furnishing blogger and photographer based in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, Jiupai News reported. She was born and grew up in a village in Guangshui, central Hubei province. Her life was devastated in 2006 when she was cooking a meal for her pregnant mother at home, and the kitchen caught fire. Although Dai survived, 95 per cent of her body was seared, and all her fingers, except her left thumb, had to be amputated. After undergoing multiple rounds of surgery and a two-year rehabilitation regime, she returned to school to study. Dai said she achieved high scores at school and had many friends thanks to her easy-going personality. She said at first she did not think she was different from others, but later she felt inferior. Dai Wanyue and her fiancé have found happiness together despite adversity. - Photo: Weibo 'People around me repeatedly told me that it was impossible for me to have a good life. No matter how hard I studied, I would not meet someone who loves me. No matter how rich I was, I would never become beautiful, they said,' recalled Dai. She studied animation major at a college in Wuhan in Hubei province and took up a job as a designer in her hometown. Years ago, Dai quit her designer's job to move to Hangzhou where she works as a blogger and photographer. 'Everyone has the right to live as they choose and to achieve their glory,' she was quoted as saying. As a home furnishing influencer, Dai receives 20-30 advertisement cooperation orders each month, bringing her a monthly income of 10,000 yuan (US$1,400). 'In the past, I dared not face the camera. Now I know that I am also entitled to stand in the sunshine and present a unique me,' she said. Her fiancé, Zhu Shiyu, hails from eastern Jiangsu province. No further personal details about him were provided in the report. But at the engagement banquet in Guangshui in Hubei on April 18, a viral video shows Zhu's father saying: 'Wanyue is outstanding. We all like her.' Mainland social media has been captivated by Dai's story, which has attracted best wishes and admiration from a huge number of internet users. 'Hope you stay happy and live together till you are old and grey,' one person said. 'She is so strong. If I were in her position, I would have surrendered to fate,' said another. - South China Morning Post

Chinese man drops out of top university, gives up PhD dreams in US to sell mashed potatoes
A young man in China has gone viral on mainland social media after quitting his master's degree at Fudan University in Shanghai to launch a street food stall, according to a report by the South China Morning Post. (Also read: Chinese man plans 'wedding' with 2 women, prank backfires as police steps in after public outrage) Before taking the unconventional path, 24-year-old Fei Yu was on track to join China's academic elite, Jiupai News reported, cited by SCMP. Despite growing up in a poor family in Leshan, Sichuan province, Fei worked hard to gain admission into Sichuan University, majoring in public health. After graduating in 2022, his stellar academic record – ranked first in his class – secured him a place at Fudan University's graduate school without even needing to sit an entrance exam. However, after only one term, Fei made the difficult decision to drop out. He cited depression, insomnia, and stomach problems caused by academic pressure and mistreatment by his mentor as the reasons behind his departure. 'I could not continue my study any longer,' he said, without naming the teacher involved. Following a year of staying idle at home, Fei applied for PhD programmes in preventive medicine at several universities in the United States and was admitted with a scholarship. However, funding cuts introduced during Donald Trump's presidency forced the school to withdraw its financial support, leaving Fei unable to afford his overseas education. Coming from a simple background – with his father working as a coal miner and his mother doing odd jobs – Fei decided to pursue a different dream: starting a small business. Drawing from his childhood experience selling balloons with his grandmother and excelling at part-time sales during university, Fei launched a mashed potato food stall near the gates of his alma mater on 10 March. 'So far, the business performance has been satisfactory,' Fei said, adding that he earns between 700 and 1,000 yuan (US$100–140) per day, with customers often queueing up for his food. 'I do not feel embarrassed at all. I am an outgoing person,' he said. 'If they think the flavour of my food is nice, they will definitely return to buy.' (Also read: Drunk Chinese man impales head on metal rod through mouth, survives 10-hour surgery) While some critics have accused him of wasting educational resources, Fei disagreed. 'I do not think it is a pity that I discontinued my master's degree studies and did not take up a job related to my major. In my opinion, the result is not so important, but the process is.' Each day, he spends around four hours preparing food before opening his stall at 5pm, often selling out within two to three hours. 'It is exhausting. But I do not have any psychological pressure from academic studies. Extracting myself from studying or doing science research, I feel I have entered a new world,' Fei added.
