Former Charger Seen As Final Piece For Commanders Offense
Former Charger Seen As Final Piece For Commanders Offense originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Austin Ekeler and Brian Robinson were the two-headed monster that the Washington Commanders relied on to reach the conference championship game last season. Advertisement Both are entering the final years of their deal with the team, though. With a bolstered offensive line, the Commanders could look to add another runner to the roster in the hopes of making their top two, a three-headed unstoppable force. A player they could look at? Former Baltimore Raven and Los Angeles Charger J.K. Dobbins. NFL reporter Gilberto Manzano suggested that Dobbins would be the top choice and best fit for Washington out of the leftover free agents. "It's a bit surprising that Dobbins remains unsigned after bouncing back from significant injuries to emerge as a Comeback Player of the Year candidate with the Chargers last season," Manzano said. "Perhaps teams aren't willing to pay a certain price for a running back with an extensive injury history. Advertisement "The Commanders could use a productive back such as Dobbins, who recorded 905 yards in 13 games last season. Dobbins wouldn't have to carry a heavy workload with Brian Robinson Jr. and Austin Ekeler also on the Commanders' roster." He has an injury history, but we are a bit puzzled as to why he sits on the shelf. Dobbins' 2024 season showed he could still play football at a high level with the right offensive line blocking for him. Washington has made tremendous strides to bolster their front five over the last two seasons. Because of this, a power runner like Dobbins would be an excellent fit for the Commanders offense. Chicago Bears Linked to Making High-Impact Running Back Move
Throughout the course of the 2025 NFL offseason, the Chicago Bears have been very active. It's clear that the front office wants to be aggressive in building around quarterback Caleb Williams and pursuing playoff contention. While the team has made some great additions, there is still a need in the backfield. Adding a running back before the season arrives seems likely for the Bears. Advertisement Keeping that in mind, who could Chicago take a look at signing? Nick Chubb is a name that has come up on multiple occasions. However, the Bears have been linked to another name late in the NFL free agency market. analyst Jeffri Chadiha has suggested that former Los Angeles Chargers running back J.K. Dobbins could be an ideal fit for Chicago. "Dobbins is also 26 years old, which means he would be more attractive than somebody like Nick Chubb, who is a more physical ball-carrier but also turns 30 in December," Chadiha wrote. "The Bears already have rebuilt their interior offensive line and loaded up on pass catchers in the draft (tight end Colston Loveland and wide receiver Luther Burden III were their first two picks). It's time to solidify the backfield and think about all the ways their offense might explode this fall." Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson.© Kamil Krzaczynski-Imagn Images Dobbins put together a strong 2024 campaign with the Chargers. He played in 13 games, carrying the football 195 times for 905 yards and nine touchdowns. He also caught 32 passes for 153 yards. Advertisement If the Bears were to sign Dobbins, he would form a dynamic dual-threat backfield with D'Andre Swift. Chicago would be able to use both running backs in different situations. There are concerns about Dobbins' injury history, as he has suffered a torn ACL in 2021, another knee injury in 2022, and a torn Achilles in 2023. A low-cost and potential high-reward type of deal could make sense between the Bears and Dobbins.
