Domhnall Gleeson joins Mara sisters in Ireland-filmed movie
Domhnall Gleeson has joined siblings Rooney and Kate Mara in the cast of the upcoming Werner Herzog film Bucking Fastard, which has recently been filming in Ireland.
US entertainment trade publication Deadline reports that Bucking Fastard completed filming last weekend having shot in Dublin, Sligo, and Slovenia.
Footage from the film, which also stars Orlando Bloom, will be shown to buyers at this month's Cannes Film Festival.
Bucking Fastard tells the story of Jean and Joan Holbrooke, "two sisters who are so close to each other that they speak in unison, love the same man, and have the same dreams. They even make the same slip of tongue in unison."
The sisters are "in search of an imaginary land", one "where true love is possible" - and "start digging a tunnel through an entire mountain range".
"Bloom will play their rowdy ex-lover Gareth Mulroney and Gleeson will be Timothy, their government-issued social worker/mender, trying to help them adapt to modern life after the two become tabloid sensations," Deadline adds.
Commenting on the film, Herzog said: " Bucking Fastard is a film that, for me, completes a circle in an operatic triptych with my previous films, Fitzcarraldo and Grizzly Man.
"We cannot see the world as Jean and Joan Holbrooke see it, but we do see how the world reacts to them - through the courts and the press, through those that want to help and those who want to use them, through the eyes of beasts both tame and wild, and even through their own echoes in the core of the earth."
Gabrielle Stewart, CEO HanWay Films, which is handling sales of the film, said: "Werner has surpassed himself in crafting something truly original with surprising notes of humour and fantasy. We are excited to be unveiling exclusive footage of Bucking Fastard to buyers in Cannes."
