‘Couldn't make it up,' say Wolves fans as they find Matheus Cunha on club calendar for June – the day he joins Man Utd
PINCH, punch, WORST of the month! Wolves fans can't believe it after turning the page in the club calendar to find Matheus Cunha is the face of June - on the day he joined Manchester United. 2 The Red Devils confirmed the Brazilian attacker is incoming on a five-year deal, with Wolves receiving a club record fee of £62.5million. But never in a month of Sundays did Molineux supporters think losing their main man would come with such a Devilish twist. Cunha's smile beams out in a photo that dominates the club's page for June. Just to underline the point, the 26-year-old's name and No 10 shirt number are also printed. Cunha even clenches his fist in the snap - as if celebrating. But as it turned out, when the date arrived in real life he was rejoicing for an entirely different reason. One fan posted a pic of his calendar's latest offering and simply wrote: "Happy June the 1st." Another supporter replied: "You honestly couldn't make it up." "A third wrote: "Lmaooooo you've gotta be joking." But others tried to see the funny side. Matheus Cunha gifts Wolves team-mates Joao Gomes and Andre a Rolex ahead of Man Utd transfer One said: "Mate I've had to laugh at that sorry." And there was also room for conspiracy theories. One fan commented: "I have the same calendar, it's almost as if they knew he'd be going." Another observer noted that Liverpool had adopted a different approach over Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk. He wrote: "I noticed that TAA was in the February section of the Liverpool calendar. Salah and VVD were the next ones. Thinking ahead to avoid this exact thing if they left". In the event, Alexander-Arnold has moved to Real Madrid - while the other two, arguably the Prem champions' best players, are staying at Anfield with new contracts.

Man Utd-bound Matheus Cunha leaves staggering parting gifts to Wolves team-mates ahead of transfer
MATHEUS CUNHA left staggering parting gifts to Wolves teammates ahead of his move to Manchester United. The Brazil star, 25, is nearing a £62.5million move to Old Trafford as Ruben Amorim looks to rebuild his attack. 3 3 Cunha helped himself to 17 goals and six assists to effectively save Wolves from relegation. And he is now set for United after agreeing terms on a lucrative five-year contract. It's reckoned Cunha will take Marcus Rashford's No10 jersey when he arrives at the Theatre of Dreams. But in the meantime, the ace has been bidding farewell to Wolves pals following Sunday's final game against Brentford, which ended in a 1-1 draw. And two of his closest mates were presented with amazing gifts. Fellow Brazilians Joao Gomes and Andre were rewarded for their friendship with Rolex watches. Cunha also sent them a heartwarming message, saying: 'Thank you for all the moments, you will always be in my heart. 'I will always be in love with you and your family. I love you.' Gomes answered: 'I promised we wouldn't be relegated and he promised a Rolex! A man of his word. 'This is worth a lot!! It is more valuable than any trophy or title, a sincere friendship. I love you my big friend, straight talk. Thanks for everything my bro.' Gomes then hailed Andre, who received a hug off Cunha in the dressing room. He added: 'He (Andre) got involved in our agreement and nothing fairer than receiving one too, Andre I love you brother.' Andre also fired a message to Cunha, noting: 'I'm sure you will shine wherever you go, my friend. 'May God bless you and your family wherever you go.'

Man United-bound Matheus Cunha calls time on his Wolves career by gifting two of his team-mates Rolex watches as he prepares for medical
Matheus Cunha appears to have signalled the end of his Wolves career with gifts to two of his team-mates, with the Brazilian set to join Man United in a £62.5million move. Cunha has agreed terms over a five-year contract with the option of an additional year, and could travel to Manchester for a medical this week once United make a formal approach to Wolves. However, United have yet to activate the clause in Cunha's contract which has to be paid in three instalments of £20.85m over two years. Cunha's fellow Brazilian team-mates Joao Gomes and Andre revealed on social media that they had been gifted Rolex watches by outgoing attacker, with an apparent departing message. 'Thank you for all the moments, you will always be in my heart,' Cunha wrote to Gomes. Joao Gomes revealed he and Andre had been gifted Rolex watches from the outgoing star Andre was filmed receiving his watch in the changing room before embracing Cunha 'I will always be in love with you and your family. I love you.' Gomes shared the image of the Rolex box and message from Cunha on social media. 'I promised we wouldn't be relegated and he promised a Rolex!! A man of his word,' Gomes wrote. 'This is worth a lot!! It is more valuable than any trophy or title, a sincere friendship. I love you my big friend, straight talk. Thanks for everything my bro.' Gomes also shared footage of Andre discovering his Rolex in the Wolves changing room before embracing Cunha. 'He got involved in our agreement and nothing fairer than receiving one too @andre I love you brother,' Gomes added. Andre also shared a photo of him warming up with Cunha during the season. 'I'm sure you will shine wherever you go, my friend,' Andre wrote. 'May God bless you and your family wherever you go.' Man United would like to complete a deal for the 25-year-old Brazilian by the end of May, kicking off what is expected to be a busy summer of ins and outs at Old Trafford. Cunha is likely to be given the No.10 shirt which currently belongs to Marcus Rashford who is set to leave Old Trafford after a loan spell at Aston Villa. As well as signing Cunha to fill one of the two No.10 positions in his 3-4-3 system, Amorim has prioritised a striker and a midfielder. However, he admitted on Sunday that he is limited by financial fair play rules after United missed out on a £100m Champions League windfall by losing the Europa League final to Tottenham last week. Liam Delap remains the No.1 striker target but United face competition from a number of clubs – notably Chelsea – and will have other options.

Wolves season review: Pereira's points (and pints), Cunha chaos and hands off Andre
Such is the contrast between the mood at Molineux now and the mood in mid-December, it is difficult to imagine they came in the same season. Yet it is just five months since Vitor Pereira walked into a club on its knees. It has been a season of wildly fluctuating fortunes and hugely conflicting emotions. Here are some memories from it. A grim slog that somehow turned into a triumph of sorts. The first period of the season under Gary O'Neil was a series of disappointments piled on each other, but the arrival of Pereira in December turned the campaign around. It was a gradual improvement at first, followed by a dramatic surge to safety in the final couple of months, complete with some memorable victories, improved performances and joyous celebrations, followed by visits to Wolverhampton pubs by the head coach. For many reasons, the 4-1 victory at Fulham in November was memorable and the most dramatic game of the season, not least as the emphatic win was largely unexpected. Wolves' only other league success before that day had come against a dreadful Southampton side. It was even less likely when Fulham went ahead on 20 minutes through Alex Iwobi and missed chances for a second goal that would probably have killed off a fragile Wolves team. Advertisement Instead, Matheus Cunha levelled the score before half-time, before a further three goals after the break from Joao Gomes, Cunha and Goncalo Guedes. It was the last positive day of O'Neil's tenure and probably extended it at least a couple of weeks beyond where it might have ended otherwise. March 1 will go down as the day Cunha lost his head, lashing out at Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez in an outburst that ultimately led to a four-game suspension. But earlier in that FA Cup game, the Brazilian had exchanged passes with Santiago Bueno before letting fly with an unstoppable, dipping shot from 25 yards that found the top corner. In hindsight, the lack of joy in his celebration hinted at his state of mind. But it did not detract from the quality of a special goal. Six minutes from the end of a fairly scrappy game at Ipswich Town, Wolves were already heading for a position of virtual safety after Pablo Sarabia's goal had cancelled out Liam Delap's opener for the home side, for whom the game represented one last Hail Mary in their efforts to reel in Pereira's side. Then Sarabia helped a crossfield ball back across the face of goal, Jorgen Strand Larsen bundled it in for a winner and Wolves knew beyond all doubt they were staying up. Cue Andre grabbing 14-year-old schoolboy Max Harris's phone for a video selfie that summed up the new mood of togetherness between players and fans. @Wolves utfw — Max Harris (@max_harris739) April 5, 2025 Just when you think you've seen everything football has to offer, a player loses his temper, elbows an opposition staff member in the back of the head and rips his glasses from his face. As you do… So thanks, Matheus Cunha. As much as all of the goals and game-changing contributions, that moment after the home defeat against Ipswich in O'Neil's final game will live in the memory. 'First the points, then the…' The first few times Pereira delivered his catchphrase, he did it in the style of the legendary entertainer Bruce Forsyth inviting his audience (the assembled media) to join in — 'Nice to see you, to see you, NICE.' The Wolves head coach wants to be remembered for his work on the training field, and results mean he will get his wish, but his embracing of fan culture and the visits to local pubs did not hurt either. First the points, then the pints! GO DEEPER A curry, a Carling and a table in front of the TV – touring Wolves manager Pereira's favourite pubs Even after a few disappointing ends to transfer windows in recent years, it was still a major shock that Wolves failed to sign a centre-back — O'Neil's main transfer priority — before business closed. It has not been a campaign littered with moments of levity, but the chaos after Ipswich goalkeeper Alex Palmer handled a backpass during Wolves' win at Portman Road did raise quite a few smiles. GO DEEPER How one Ipswich backpass caused two of the craziest minutes in the Premier League this season Wolves did not play well at St James' Park in January as they were beaten 3-0 by Newcastle United but most sides would have struggled to cope with Alexander Isak that night. The striker scored twice and was a constant menace to a Wolves defence still struggling for balance. Has there been anything to fault Pereira on? Minor things, perhaps. He admitted himself that he should have taken Joao Gomes off at half-time in the home defeat by Arsenal to avoid the red card that eventually arrived, and he could possibly have found a way to switch Emmanuel Agbadou to the centre of his back three a little sooner. But that is splitting hairs. The transformation under Pereira, who was far from the club's first choice when they were looking for O'Neil's successor, has been remarkable. Nine out of 10. Transfers, and specifically the future of Cunha. If the saga goes long into the summer window, discussions will centre on where the Brazilian might end up. If he goes quickly, the focus will fall on where Wolves might spend the money. 'Can Wolves keep Andre?' The Brazil midfielder has been so good in the second half of this season that he will attract interest if he maintains his form.
