Jodie Turner-Smith stuns at the Met Gala in red leather dress and a statement top hat

Jodie Turner-Smith brought Victorian high fashion to the Met Gala by wearing a stunning top hat and long, red leather dress. The actress, 38, stunned in the custom Burberry fit, which was reflected the theme of this year's event, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. Jodie's hair was pulled back into a sweeping pony tail to ensure that her statement making hat had the desired effect. She matched her lipstick with the dark red of the dress, opting for a sultry smokey eye look that made the gold of her hooped earrings truly pop. The coat itself was worn above a synched corset that accentuated Jodie's waist and a pair of figure-hugging trousers, both of which appeared to be made from a more silky material. Jodie posted alongside other big names including fashion designer Daniel Lee, 38, who also opted for a silky, dandy look, and fellow actress Cynthia Erivo, 38, who wore an equally statement-making black and floral jacket. Deemed the Oscars of the East Coast, the Met Gala sees some of the biggest stars descend on the iconic The Metropolitan Museum of Art for the annual charity event. Teyana Taylor, La La Anthony and Ego Nwodim hosted the Vogue livestream, with Emma Chamberlain tasked with doing interviews on the blue carpet. This year's is also the first Met Gala in more than 20 years to have a menswear theme. The gala raises the bulk of the curation budget for the museum's Costume Institute. This year, it's about tailoring and suiting as interpreted through the history and meaning of Black dandyism across the Atlantic diaspora. The theme is inspired by the annual spring exhibition, which this year is based in large part on Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, a book written by Monica L. Miller. She is guest curator of the exhibit. 'Historical manifestations of dandyism range from absolute precision in dress and tailoring to flamboyance and fabulousness in dress and style,' Miller writes in the exhibit catalog. 'Whether a dandy is subtle or spectacular, we recognise and respect the deliberateness of the dress, the self-conscious display, the reach for tailored perfection, and the sometimes subversive self-expression.' Just days before the fundraiser, Sarah Jessica Parker, left fans stunned as she, sadly, confirmed she would not be attending due to a scheduling conflict. 'I have to work,' the Sex and The City star told Entertainment Tonight. 'But there's going to be so much to see, and I look forward to seeing what everybody does and how they interpret the theme and the homework they did for the assignment. A very joyful assignment.' Brooklyn Beckham and his wife Nicola Peltz are also among the newly released names of celebrities opting to skip the highly exclusive, annual fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. On Monday, a source revealed to The Sun that Brooklyn had planned on father David Beckham's 50th birthday bash instead of the Met Gala. The couple, however, were noticeably no-shows at David's London celebration on Saturday, with the reason behind their fallout revealed here by Mail+.

Jodie Turner-Smith names most memorable fashion moment

Jodie Turner-Smith has named her most memorable fashion moment in recent years. The Queen & Slim actress is most proud of the ultra-revealing look she wore to the Vanity Fair post-Oscars party in March 2024. She stunned onlookers when she stepped onto the red carpet wearing a backless black Gucci gown with an extremely low neckline and a waist-high leg split. Reflecting on the look, the 38-year-old told Harper's Bazaar, "My most memorable fashion moment of late would have to be last year's Vanity Fair Oscars party look because the highlight of the outfit was not the dress. The highlight was me showcasing the rich dark moisturised skin that God has blessed me with!" The British actress added that she feels the most confident in an outfit when she fully believes in it. "I am my most comfortable when I believe in something, so whatever iteration of myself I am bringing to life with a look, I feel the most confident when I believe in it and believe in myself," she stated. The Agency star noted that her "style is constantly evolving" but what remains consistent is her desire to work with brands that "value strong and empowered women". Despite her ever-evolving tastes, Turner-Smith divulged what types of clothing she is currently attracted to. "I am very drawn to clothing that feels elegantly tailored, nodding towards a time before this one and also hinting at masculine energy - structure, shoulders with emphasis and exaggeration, trousers that make legs appear to go on for days," she shared, before adding, "And always, a statement handbag." The mother-of-one has been very involved with fashion this month thanks to appearances at New York Fashion Week and in Burberry's star-studded campaign.
